What is high mileage on a ss?
I’m starting to look for a new to me 2016-2018 ss (most likely automatic) and I am only finding cars that have a few more miles than I normally would consider so I am curious to when (mileage) the problems start to come up on 6th gen Camaros. Thanks in advance!

My 2018 is still at a low mileage, but from what I've seen here the only considerable, universal issue is the A8 transmission shudder that can surface at any mileage but has a well-known solution (see here). Other than that, the powertrain is stout and should last long, provided the owner does proper maintenance (oil changes primarily).
There obviously are other potential issues such as the rear axle moan or NPP exhaust rattle, but these are smaller, very easy to remedy and typically make an appearance during the first few thousand miles, so I'd imagine the previous owner would've got them fixed.

Hoping 150-200k miles, which is good for a car being run hard and slammed through the gears. Mine is a 17' SS manual with 61k miles. Still runs like new. Last edited by Casper the friendly G; 02-16-2023 at 10:47 PM. Reason: gg |

I believe 14k is average. I would be OK with anything in 8-10k per year. Don’t be worried about secondary market.
Everyone assumes that it was tracked everyday by an unassuming teen. Reality is most people who buy them, they are the most expensive car they own. I bought a 18 with a ProCharger which when people here assume this guy drove 100 mph at 7k rpm’s everytime he was in it. People may drive it spirited but are gonna take care of a 35 to 50k investment. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I wouldn't be too scared of mileage -- I'd care more about good service records, regular oil changes, other fluids flushed / changed at regular intervals, etc. A well taken care of high mileage car will have more longevity than a neglected lower mileage car.
And keep in mind these pushrod, overhead valve engines are not overly complex -- and GM LS / LT motors have pretty great history of reliability and relatively low cost of repairs. I'd figure out your budget, see what mileage SS that budget can support in the market and then find a car that comes with paperwork, documentation, maintenance history, etc.

Well cared for V8's are designed to go 200-300k miles. High mileage would be 100k+. Most factory parts begin to wear at 100k miles such as radiator, fuel pumps, Alternator etc.

Get the lowest mileage, with service records, you can afford.

Avoid the A8 at all costs, the fix is a stop gap and hides the issues underneath

Normal mileage on a 2016 car daily driven, would be in the high 70,000s/low 80,000 mileage range. most people drive around 12k a year) the camaro is built to be daily driven. A 2016 car is 7 years old now. Find one that isn’t a daily driven and has a maintenance history with it.

1. +1 to the advice about avoiding 8-speed.
2. Never trust the odometer, especially if there are no service records from the trusted source. 3. As for any performance enthusiast car, mileage doesn't mean a lot. It is not a truck with 200k of highway miles, and not an SUV where it is rarely abused. 4. Check the car yourself. Again, this is Camaro, not Chevy Equinox. One owner was doing burnouts daily, but has just 20k miles. Another owner was doing proper maintenance and took a good care of it, but the car has 60k miles. I will choose the 2nd one any time of the day.
