Car shakes hard in speed over 140mph

Anyone know if this has to do with the A8 shudder? I got the tranny flushed a few months ago, and never had this problem before, it was very smooth in speeds over 140 before. Anyone know what it is and should I take it in for a checkup?

The balance is good, I just put on new PS4S all around, but on that topic, an alignment could be a good place to start right? Or should it not have that much of an impact?

I recently had the same problem. Bought a set of OEM wheels and tires, and after putting them on the car would start shaking at highway speeds.
The wheels would balance just fine. But you need to find a tire shop that has a “road force” balancer, that showed the problem right away.

Could be anything, tires, balance, alignment, even maybe just the road you were on. At 140 mph those little tolerances can get very tight. A tire that balances on the machine, may not be so balanced at that speed, alignment the same way. Point is, at 140, something doesn't need to be off by much to be felt.

How is a shop supposed to verify the customer's complaint?

I would get a road force balance. Not all tire stores do it. Find one that does. Should solve the problem.

And no problems since then? I'll try to find one near me and hope it takes away the issue, one of the things I loved was how smooth the car felt at very high speeds, these vibrations are really a huge bummer. I mean, the times you go that high are not often at all, but still.

So nobody thinks this would be a torque converter issue, or worse, engine-related? This is my biggest fear

This is the right answer.

Ya I agree with trying the Road Force vs a simple spin balance.

I'll jump on board the Road Force wagon. After my last tire change at a local shop I had vibrations at highway speed. They used old fashion spin balance. Took the car to Discount Tire and had them balanced again and they used Road Force Elite equipment. Problem solved.

Imagine balancing the wheels for a Bugatti Veyron or Chiron. 240+ mph capability.

I decided to have a local Chevy dealer instal my tires.

I watched the tech & chatted with him as he did it & they have a road force balancer.

As a former Tires Plus employee, & working at a few shops, way back when, I’ve done my share of tire balancing. The new machinery is pretty awesome & accurate.

Lasers that show exactly where to apply the weights, that’s pretty neat.
