No problem! Also note the 555r2 are 168mph rated opposed to the 149mph rating on the 555r.

So now that you have more time with both... If you had to go buy a tire to replace them today what size and version would you get?

Thanks

I tried my R2's down to about 19 psi and it seemed to me to make no difference?

It seems random when they decide to hookup and when they don't. When they do. I used to think the road surface (how flat, new asphalt, etc.) had the most effect, but then I've gotten it to hook on older beaten up roads.

It still seems like temperature is the biggest factor, especially when the sun heats up the asphalt. Sometimes it helps me before trying it to do a quick stab of the throttle to spin them a little which I assume cleans off some of the dirt and stuff that likes to stick to them. Once they break loose and start spinning bad I can just feel money being sucked out the window haha

I can't answer that yet until I do more testing.

Update, I was able to do more testing yesterday. Temps were pretty cold (48-50) so it makes it a little difficult to say if the 555r2 is performing as well as my prior 555r from a dig. Anyway tires were around 20 psi, light first gear burnout, brake stall to 2k, let it roll out and eased it down. This netted me a 1.85 60ft, 3.2 0-60, 6.4 0-100 verified by dragy. Fuel level was 3/4 tank of E50.

To recap my best with the 555r with a 1500rpm brake stall, 1.8 60ft, 3.1 0-60, 6.5 0-100 in 60 degree weather... 1/4 tank of e60. The faster 0-100 is likely due to some torque management settings in the trans tune.

What I found is the 555r2 seem to like more brake stall rpm and less throttle on the hit. If I try to launch off idle the tires just come unglued...at least on the street.

Overall I would say they are fairly close. Now that I found the optimal launch RPM, I think I could match or improve my prior best 60ft and 0-60 on a warmer day. Also If I had a wider wheel the 555r2 would probably work even better.

So imho if you are running a stock 20 x 9.5 wheel either get the 295/35/20 555r2 or 305/35/20 555r unless you have a wider wheel. I do think the 555r2 is overall a better tire. If I was going to buy a tire today I would probably give the 295/35/20 a 555r2 a shot before reverting back to the 305/35/20 555r.

When I try to brake stall I end up spinning. Any spinning more than the initial chirp guarantees me a +4 second 0-60. Maybe I need to try to brake stall and let it roll out like you say. I know if I am not almost immediately up to 100% throttle, It will be a +4 second run again. About 1/4 of the time it will just randomly decide to hook with a little squeal, and I can go from idle to 100% throttle and get a high 3 second (3.4-3.5 with rollout).

Just the difference in power would be my guess.

When I was NA with bolt-ons I could brake stall to 2k rpm and pretty much floor it once I let off the brake. My car always has responded better by brake stalling. Here is a launch vid when it was NA. If I could put it to the floor right off the brake with Whipple setup like in the vid, the car would be deep in the 2's. Hell I can not even touch 99% tps until 5800rpm and the tires still break loose.

So I broke my record again tonight by about .2 seconds, by brake stalling it. I stalled it up to probably a little under 2000 rpms, then let it roll out very slightly and pushed the gas all the way down just a little slower.

I was about to get a 3.58 0-60 (3.36 with rollout), 1.87 60 foot on the draggy.

I usually never tried stalling it since when I did I would just use the launch control feature. However, the launch control feature for whatever reason pulls too much power and we don't have the necessary parameters in HP Tuners to make it function like it should unfortunately so we have to still do it manually. I think if we could edit it we could get even faster times, with a lot of trial and error and testing though. Although there will always be people who claim they are better and faster than the computer so I don't know?

Good deal! Yea it would be nice if we had access to the launch control parameters.

I havent found anything that matches the 17" ET R 305/45/17 so far in terms of hooking on both the street or track.

But for something to put on the daily driver 20" rims I think I will give your suggestions for the 555r2 a try. It would be nice to have something I could leave on the car during the week rain or shine and still have some fun.

I seem to have best luck with about a 1500-1700rpm brake torque with about a few feet of rollout then roll into full throttle. The launch control works ok, but I don't like the 0.5 sec delay/bog it does when you first release the brake. For messing around or on a tree that might work, but for racing the car from a flashlight or arm drop start its a death sentence.

I tried the idle stab technique at the track and it was pretty good, but it just lights up the tires immediately on the street. I recently got a Pray trans tune so I am looking forward to trying to get out to the track one more time before they close here and seeing how much better it works now. But the trans tune has completely changed the car in every other way and I couldn't be happier.

Especially incorporating some of King's unlocked converter settings in cruise.

I need to find the old thread around here on getting the manual mode to shift automatically when you forget to put it back into D after the burnout. I knocked myself out in the first round of a NoPrep this weekend waiting expecting it to shift and bouncing off the rev limiter for a few seconds by accidently leaving it in manual. FML

For sure...I don't have any doubts that a 17 or a 15" drag radial would hook better. I am just posting what 20's will do on the street behind a decent amount of power is all. If I was worried about going to the track or grudge race on the street, I would buy a full drag setup.

And yes the Manual mode TUTD tune is a must imo. I don't even do WOT pulls in Drive anymore. Imo the transmission just shifts more consistent in TUTD even when you get some wheel spin. In drive mode the trans tends to do goofy shit unless everything is perfect.

Made it out to Mexico for a couple test runs. It was a bit chilly... had to launch from 2nd gear, but the 555r2's did ok.
