About to order a new LT1 - need advice on some options! Colors, etc.
Hey all,
This is my first post on these forums, so just to give some background: Previous cars I've owned - 2005 Mustang GT, 2015 Infiniti Q50. I currently own a 2008 Corvette Z06 and a 1991 Mustang LX 5.0 hatchback. Looking to sell the Z06 because it's no longer possible to daily drive this car. Too many issues, too expensive to keep fixing, just not reasonable. The Corvette has been my daily, rain or shine, year round since July 2018. I've had my fun, now I want to be able to have a new vehicle, with a warranty, that I'm not afraid to depend on as transportation. So I'm ordering a new Camaro LT1 for lease. I don't need the SS stuff because the car will be a daily driver and will never see track time aside from maybe a 1/4 mile pass or two. Here's my build: https://www.chevrolet.com/performanc...stalCode=33101 Brief summary: Black LT1, RS package, tech package, Recaro's, NPP, front splitter, some other stuff. Despite the similar MSRP's, leasing this LT1 build is $173 per month cheaper than a similarly built 1SS, and quite frankly I don't need 90% of the SS cooling/track stuff. HERE ARE MY QUESTIONS: 1. Debating on color. Growing up, I've always thought a black Camaro was the coolest possible car ever. But I'm torn between black, silver, and shadow gray metallic. Anyone have any strong opinions on how the car looks in each respective color? (WOULD LOVE TO SEE PICS) I haven't seen too many in person. Also, I think the silver color is on restriction, so will that mean it would be harder to get one in that color or it would take a lot longer? I would wash the car every 1-2 weeks so not sure if the black would look terrible when it's not super clean. 2. Debating on the ground effects package (the basic one, not the second generation one). Historically, I thought the ground effects package on the 5th gen looked atrocious, but this one seems much more subdued. Mainly curious about the side skirts - I'm getting the front splitter either way, as I think it's necessary to "set off" the look of the LT1 front bumper. 3. Any other advice? My dealership says there are no restrictions or delayed options on the build I linked to above. Anything else I should consider? Thanks! |

Some pics of Shadow Gray in different light.

Black is my favorite color on most cars, but least favorite to clean (my black truck is enough for me).

1. Black is absolutely the most badass of these three colors by far. What you want to be very careful about if you go with black is your washing technique, as every single swirl and haze you introduce into the clearcoat will be flashing at you. On that note, the clearcoat is brittle on 6th gen Camaros, so you do really need to be careful. Budget permitting, I would probably add some PPF to the front. 2. Personally, I would skip the expensive factory ground effects package, get the OEM splitter plus some nice aftermarket ZL1 style side skirts (that's actually what I did), that will give you the best look and even some protection for the rocker panels. Given your ownership history, I'm sure you will love this car

Boy, I love an opinion post. I would go low maintenance WHITE, no options and I would BUY, not lease. The LT1s are great, if they were around in '15 I would have purchased one as a DD.

Just bought mine in December. Lt1, A10, Tech package, RS package. Wish this one would have had NPP. No Racaro's for me. $39600 Sticker, wrote a check out the door for $36800 including dealer fees. I'm sure they would have liked to make some finance fees but I had the money so no financing for me.

If you want a color that will be different on an LT1 I would go with that vivid orange! That’s just my opinion and I think all the options you listed are good including the Recaro seats. As was replied I think I would buy instead of lease but you know what’s best for your situation. Good luck and welcome to our forum!

I have not read all the posts here, but i'll never get black again. It looks bad ass, but omg it's never clean, it almost always has swirl marks. Just don't.

Oh boy. You are making quite the strong case for shadow gray metallic lol. Is it more dark gray in person? Looks almost bluish-greenish in some pictures, which is the only thing I’m not crazy about. Is it hard to keep clean? |

It's got a good amount of blue in it, but really no significant green... It's easier to keep clean than Black but probably not as easy as silver (just shows dust a bit more (but only when you are sitting in it looking at the hood in the sun)...

Does anyone know if there are restrictions on the satin steel color? Like if I order that color, will I be waiting forever? I think the last day to order one is late March?

Like everyone else said. Black looks BA when clean and new. It's hard to keep it that way though.
Other than that, I approve of your choices. You may proceed. LOL!
