Stock tire question

Stock tires for the non Track package that is. Would you feel comfortable if you had to drive in the rain at temps 40’s and above going no faster than 60 mph?

Yes I would but you still have to be careful driving in the rain even in fair weather. Those GY Supercar tires don’t have deep tread even when new but you learn how to drive in the rain after a few times.

I've had no issues in the rain driving 70+ on stock tires, but they are still fairly new, only 3k miles on my car.

I never had issues with rain before driving any of my Corvettes but some of the posts here make it sound like you are driving on a ice rink.
Another question, if I buy a ZL1 up north and have the tires changed before driving it home can I fit all 4 stock tires in the car? Don’t mind using the front seat if I have to.

Those tires are pretty wide and big but you might could pull it off. Flip the rear seat back down(2 might go there), one in the trunk and one in the front seat. It will be tight though I would imagine.

Yeah Tricksta, it gets worse with more miles on the tires. Mine has over 10,000 now on the original GYs and it is a little tricky at times driving in the rain. I haven’t done a 360 in the rain yet, Thank the Lord!!

I've heard the GY's are only good for 5-10,000 miles so not surprised

Since I don’t track mine I hoping to stretch out to 12,000 or a little more miles on mine before replacing them. Haven’t decided on what tires to buy to replace them with yet either. Thinking I might go back with the GYs but not sure!

I've already got my eyes on the PSS4's

Yes either those or Continental Extreme Contact Sport tires! Maybe the old Michelin Super Sport tires too.

Yes, I have put all 4 tires (on wheels) in my ZL1 1LE. 1 in trunk, 1 in front seat, 2 in back seat. Technically, you can fit 3 in back seat but you'll have to move your seat way up.

No. Stock tires are deadly in rain. Mine tried to kill me at 75F in light rain (hydroplaned at 2 weeks and 500 miles). And again at 80F in heavy rain (at 3000 miles).

At 40F and rain, forget it. They will be hockey pucks on black ice.

Spend the big $ on some MPS4S and be done with it. Sell the OEMs to a track day junkie to recoup some (or all) of the premium.

Gunkk,
How fast were you going when you hydroplaned?

For what its worth my plans are to run the stock tires till late fall (assuming I find a car to buy!) then replace them with Michelins PS4's.
