MICHELIN PS4S VS MICHELIN CUP 2S

i have been running the same set of michelin p4s since a few years ago and half 3 full track days, 1 half track day and a few auto x days on them and my car was mostly a street car with some track use. This year it will mostly be a track car with some street use so just wanted to ask if anybody has ran both of these on their camaro and do you think the cup 2s are worth the extra $$ or should i look elsewhere? tire size is 275/285/30/20 and 305/30/20

Normally I would say yes they are worth the extra $$$ for mainly track car, but since you will burn through them at least twice as fast as the PS4s I suggest looking elsewhere.... Namely to the Goodyear SC3s! They have about 90% of the pace of the Cup2s (some would argue closer to 95%ish haha) and they are much cheaper and will last longer.

The only real advantage the PS4s has over the SC3s is their wet weather performance, and we both know that's not really an issue for you Southern California guys haha I would say the Goodyears are by far the best choice.

What about the Hankook RS4? They're a favorite for a lot of people on track, and they're good at autocross, though a bit behind the re71r and bfg rivals. Plus they last a long time for track tires.

RS4s and RE71s are good as well but they don't make the sizes he's looking for for either of those tires for a 20" wheel.

I use RS4s on 19s for track duty.

+1 for G3s both performance and price wise. I am one that would argue they are closer to 95% if not even on par with Cup2s having tried a set. Either way, not worth the steep price. PS i do love Michelins otherwise and use them on my dd vehicles almost exclusively. Cheers!

Touche. It helps when I read things lol. Don't think I'd use the REs on track anyway unless I was trying to kill them at the end of the season. They don't last for anything.

+1 for OEM SC3 tires for the 20" wheels; that's all that I use. The extra cost for PSC2 is just not reasonable to me either.

You could also run 295 square in RE71R, but not much to gain over G3 stockers imo especially for the price difference. The latter are a no brainer for stock rims imo. They seem to be a bit underrated, but there are a few folks here that know their true potential and laptimes dont lie. They also communicate very well, have a nice, progressive slip angle and are easy to push on. Extremely well matched with our cars and not at all bad in the wet until track day 4 or so.

Not at all weird. Z/28 ran 305 square on 11F and 11.5R out of a factory.

Both Provoste and i (and others i believe) have run 295 RE71R on stock rims. All it means is that the rear tire gets stretched a bit more to provide a wider contact patch. And thats not a bad idea Since i have a spare set I will run them again this season. But G3s are my go to tire. Cheers!

Well, i suspect you can buy a set of G3s for the price of 3 4S? Plus they'd be a better choice for track duty anyway.
If that's the way you're going with your car now. I tell ya, they are impressive!
