Change WMA to MP3 Format

I have some CD's on a compressed version (wma) which is not compatible to MP3 for the thumbdrive.

How do you convert wma to mp3 (win 10) so I can listen to something other than AM talk radio. There are no rock stations where I live, so it's country music or talk radio.

Thanks,

wma files may or may not be copy protected. As such there aren't many "legal" ways for you to convert that file to something that can be recompressed to mp3. I'd be weary of discussing them here but google is your friend.

if it's not copy protected. for windows you have MediaCoder http://www.mediacoderhq.com/ should have everything you need.

it's not ideal to convert audio codecs that are lossy like wma -> mp3 but if you got no alternative....

Also, have you tried putting the wma files on the thumbdrive anyway and they dont get detected? If so, you may be able to get away with just changing the filename extension to .mp3 and they may play fine. You just wont have any meta data (you'll depend on the filename only for track info). This is how i play my flac files.

Well, thanks for your reply, but unless you're an IT guy, nobody knows how to convert compressed CD's in wma format (which is not compatible with the radio in GM products), to MP3 and then to the thumb-drive.

In the interim, AM talk radio sounds really good via all of the Bose speakers in the SS Camaro. Nice job, GM! My wife's 18 Taurus SHO (that's twin turbo and will blow the doors off an early 2000's stock SS Camaro), has both a CD player and the thumb-drive insert.

But no, the Camaro busts your ass! If it's so easy to do the above conversion, how come nobody knows how to do it for sure?

Forget about it. The radio sucks!

Have you tried an online service such as https://www.freeconvert.com/wma-to-mp3? Easy alternative to a full blown media conversion suite, if it works with your files.

Once the files are in MP3, you just copy them to the USB drive, folder structure doesn't matter (will be scanned and detected by the infotainment software), but the drive must be formatted to FAT32.
