They are weights. They reduce the harmonic chatter that the pads were doing before they added them. The chatter manifests as squealing to our ears.

I can tell you this; they hit the deep recessed valve stem on MRR wheels! I was told they are tuned noise/ vibration dampeners. I had to grind a little off of them. Didn’t create any problems.

They were on my early '10 SS. When I replaced my pads at 50,000 miles
I purchased the same from GM. Never gave it another thought.

Before the "Roller Skates" my brakes squealed like a stuck pig.
Now they are nice and quiet.

I took mine of 8 years ago when I put all drilled and slotted rotors and Hawk performance ceramic pads on my car. I've run Watkins Glen Road course at least 5 times. And plenty of braking, no noise and no problems taking them off the car.

Before that the first attempt on early production cars with Brembos was a stack of basically wheel weights on the calipers. I had to get those off when I refreshed the paint on the calipers.

Kind of like these - not really needed with the stiff air stems on the pressure transimitters, it's just the "idea" of them. I put them on to basically mess with people anyway. |

Not having those would be great for those with spare tire issues where the rim doesn't fit over them. My car is a summer car so I doubt if I'll ever change my brakes.. but when I do, I'll skip on the wheel style.
+1 on them being noise reducers. joe...

Gotcha, for next time, do it yourself if it's just the pads. It's SUPER easy, don't even have to remove the caliper. Basically two pins get pushed out, pull the old pads out, put the new ones in, push the pins back in and done!
