Prius Explodes! YAY!

Jalopnik:

Quote:
The Cooperative Research Network has reported that a Toyota Prius retrofitted with a plug-in hybrid kit manufactured by Lithium Technology Corporation has exploded in a big bada-boom. LTC produces a PHEV15 kit to convert the Prius into a plug-in model; while the Prius in question was reportedly experiencing charger-related problems, it was still allowed on the road. While driving, the occupant noticed balls of fire coming from the backseat and subsequently fled the vehicle, which then exploded.

The moral of the story? Don't disrupt the evolution of hybrids. Sure, everyone wants a plug-in hybrid, and they are definitely on their way. But there's no need to try to disrupt the evolutionary process; it can be dangerous — just ask Jeff Goldblum in Jurassic Park. [CRN via DailyTech]
I knew Toyota didnt work on their plug in hybrid long enough when they came out with theirs first.
I'm so happy!!! Not only is it cool because there is one less Prius out on the road but it shows how much more hard work GM puts into their vehicles (VOLT) than toyota does.

Umm....seems a bit odd to be happy about that. More competition means better and cheaper technology for the consumer.

I hate to see someone who hacks their car for something like that take such a loss.

Ummm... What are you talking about? It seems a bit odd that you dont understand what im saying. Yeah competition is great, but its like if you're a baseball fan and root for the cubs (which i do) and enjoy seeing the sox lose a lot (which they do). See what im saying.
I'm just trying to show people that GM is a great brand and they should stop buying foreign crap. Almost every country in the world that has their own domestic car brand is the number one seller in that country, except for GM.

Wow, nothing beats some schadenfreude, huh?

Companies that don't give a **** about their employees shouldn't be awarded with success: http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=4674

So, FAIL, Toyota.

Volt FTW.

I absolutely LOVE the feeling in here!
 Company-T!!

BUT! This is not a Toyota mistake, as much as I'd like it to be....
This is an aftermarket, smarty-pants who decided to (as the article says) interrupt the advancement of Hybrids. In doing so, he consequently blew up his retro-fitted battery-pack. Something the Volt WILL NOT do.

I just want everyone to realize that. As far as I'm concerned; in order to complain about something, you have to exemplify the solution...now, nobody here can call me biased!

Go CUBS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Its your year!

That said...

Kinda related, I saw a truck explode on the freeway yesterday. OK rather the engine just grenaded, but it still made the trip home more interesting. I was stuck in awful traffic when a I heard a muffled "WHUMP". I looked over to opposing traffic (which was moving fairly quickly) just in time to see a truck engulfed in white smoke pouring out from under the hood. It slammed on its breaks, and going the other way I got to watch the traffic jam happen in real time. It sure made an otherwise boring commute much more exciting.
