Kind of ridiculous don't you think?
No more ridiculous than anyone else's opinions....Rumors are in the title of this forum....and until the spy-shots surfaced, not sure what else there was to go on...

It will be new to have an "evolution" from one generation to the next for Camaro. used to be drastically different cars, which also backfired the 4th gen killed the brand.

All this comes down to is you are disappointed with the way the car is shaping up based on what we've seen. I get it, and I'm not thrilled that it looks so similar so far either. But I disagree that there was this consensus out there that the car was going to be vastly different - and I totally understand from business perspective why it isn't.

(I would like to attribute my negative tone to my frustration that the car hasn't been revealed yet - nothing personal)

Yeah all good no worries, brother...I love my '11 and will decide whether or not to keep it based on how this new Gen pans out....Just that the biggest secret for the 6thGen seems to be the styling....I hope it stands out somehow as different than the 5th Gen....otherwise, why hide it?...lol...

It was no secret when announced years ago, 6th Gen would have a new platform, new power-plants, even assembly would be in a new place...but mildly evolved 5th gen styling?? that wasn't advertised as part of the 6thGen...

Styling was also expected to be very different, and one of the main reasons this whole 6thGen forum was even created. Just look at some of the oldest threads in this forum....Enthusiasm and expectations for new and different styling were common....Now suddenly(?) the 5th Gen look is to carry sales for another 6 years?...

I hope the 6thGen looks fabulous...I'm sure it will...But if indeed it is a mildly evolved 5thGen, it won't hold up for another 6years, sales will suffer at some point and they may regret that they didn't swing for another home-run out of the gate with the 6th Gen styling to go along with the opportunity to tie it in with everything else that is new for the 6thGen.

I think the issue is the changing auto industry. We are getting more "generations" and less radical departures between generations. I'll use an example I have familiar with the VW Golf. The Mk4 lasted 7 years, the Mk5 5 years, and Mk6 3 years. The current Mk7 does not look much different than Mk6. Sure that's just one off the wall example, but seems to be the new trend in vehicles, possibly due to CAFE pushing manufactures to make changes under the car more than the design of the car.

I believe the Camaro has out sold the mustang since the 5th Gen release by around 35,000 units. I remember in 2011 it was by 17000. Ford has been closing the gap as of late.

When products are just made to suffice regulations, the consumer usually loses.
How is it a gamble when most manufacturers do it this way?

I've already decided I'm getting a 6th gen, even if it looks exactly like the refresh - if it's lighter, faster and of course, comes in a nice medium blue. So that's where my expectations are at this point - anything else will be icing on the cake!

In December the Mustang outsold the Camaro by over 3,000 cars. For the year they were just about even.

Thanks for making me do this research...

3k+ vehicles is hardly almost even. The true test will be when the next gen camaro comes out to see how sales compare, new gen to new gen.

Thanks for doing this. I was going to do this myself when I got home from work.

The gap over 6 years is 28k units. If you take out 2011, you are talking about 11k difference over 5 years. Its not insignificant, but I stand by my statement that I wouldn't call that slaughtering the Mustang in sales.

The sales are within 5% of each other each year. The numbers only become significant when you factor in how much revenue is generated for each sale, but even that is fairly insignificant to the company's bottom line.

This is from someone that thinks the side profile of the new Mustang resembles a bike helmet (not a good thing in my eyes). A lot of the larger Audi cars appear that way to me as well (my boss drives an RS7).

Quick question, maybe I missed it. Will they be showing the 2016 Camaro at the Chicago Auto show in Feb? Did they show it in Detriot?
