Ford must be having some second thoughts and looking to try to gain access to part of that conversation.

I love fast cars. Period.

Meh, Mustangs never really did it for me. I don't know why, but Camaros and Challengers just have infinitely more character imho. The GT just seems so blah and cookie cutter. As for offering a louder exhaust, it's about freaking time. The biggest complaint about the Mustang is that it's too quiet stock. The fact that they are just getting around to offering what Dodge and GM have been doing for years now leads me to think they were kind of resting on their laurels and just letting their lead wither down like the Hare did with the tortoise.
Also, Ford options are pretty steep in price. If all this comes to pass, it wouldn't surprise me if the Mustang moves up a solid $4000 in MSRP. They've done similar for their trucks with the same tech so I don't think I'm that far off. The way the Camaro has been taking all the kudos in comparisons lately leads me to think Ford is going all in finally to try to take back the King of the Hill status. While not a fan of the car, I respect the competition keeping each brand on their toes. |

10 speed auto is pretty legit. New Fords just feel cheaply done to me, and I'm a Mopar guy, that should tell you a lot lol.

I can't imagine that the 2018, or 2019 Camaro wouldn't also be getting the 10 speed like the 2017 ZL1 will have. I'm going to assume 2018 model year.
I think the 10 speed auto will make for a serious jump in straight line performance in the Mustang over the current 6 speed. But compared to the current GM 8 speed auto, I don't think there will be much of any jump in performance for the Camaro when it gets the 10 speed. My understanding is that the ratios of the first 4 - 6 gears (something like that) are exactly the same in the 8 speed versus the 10...with the 10 having the advantage of shifting a bit faster, not that the 8 speed is any slouch either under WOT conditions.

Given the low torque and higher rpm hp characteristics of the 5.0 coyote motor, the 10 speed automatic should really help in the 1/4 mile.

Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if GM rides out the 8 speed in the SS and lower trims until new gen..
I'm not sure how much the 10 speed will help the Mustang over the 6 speed auto. maybe .2 in the 1/4 at most. |

It would be nice to see them totally committed to matching the Camaro counterpart. I am not understanding dropping the V6 engine. Regardless of HP levels, some people simply wouldn't buy a 4 cylinder under any circumstances. Bravo Ford!

First making the V6 a Mustang base only trim and Ford GT with EcoBoost V6. Now eliminating the Mustang V6 completely.
