Remove Tune Before Buying??

Ok, so Im buying a 16 2SS this weekend from a private seller. He has a custom E85 (ethanol fuel) tune flashed on the car. The car has 34,000 miles on it. I asked him to have his tuner remove the flash just in case I every have to bring in the car for drive train warranty work. He said no problem. He did mention that the custom tune fixed the A8 studder issue, and if the original tune is flashed back on the car it will probably come back. So, do I leave the tune or have him remove it for down the road warranty repairs? Is there a tuner we can buy that will remove the shudder since there is no apparent fix?

Not to be the Debbie Downer here but - once an ECU has been flashed it will show if the service department decides to look. They might read the ECU if you bring the car in with a major drivetrain issue. If they do they will know the original factory tune has been altered even if the factory tune has been flashed back in. So, if you buy the car you face a potential warranty denial if it comes to that somewhere down the line.

E85 kit and a tune is worth about $1200. I'd keep it.

Powertrain warranty is lonnggggg gone. I’d look for a seriously deep discount on the car. Owner may not have known better but now you do.

$20K for 2016 2SS with 34k miles, discount enough you think?

If the warranty is important to you then look elsewhere. If not then buy the car.

Isn't powertrain on a 2016 5 yr/100k miles? Or is it 60k? Either way there's plenty left. But I wouldn't sweat it either.

Just because it has an E85 tune doesn't mean you have to run E85, you can just run 93 it will just make less power.

$20,000 for a 16 2SS is a steal, I'd be worried something else is wrong with it.

Why "walk away"? You're one step ahead buying a car that is already tuned and setup for E85. If you don't have it available run 93. Many people buy modded cars and never have any issues.
