Cooling Fan won’t turn off!

Hi All,

The cooling fan on my car won’t turn off and I turned off the car like 30 mins ago. The coolant temp gauge is all the way low. But no overheating as of now. I checked the wires and no visible rips. I disconnected the sensor to the fan and plugged it back and still the same thing.
Is this covered under warranty?

Disconnect the battery for a couple minutes. We've had some cars do this at the shop. They seem to be fine afterwards.

faulty fan switch. They're mechanical relays... They dont go bad that often but bad luck is bad luck. swap the fan relay for another if there's one identical in the fuse box (haven't checked). see if the issue goes away, if so, just pick up a new relay. That's my idea if the resetting of the computer by cutting battery didn't work.

that was for shorting at the fan power plug. that would cause the fan to not turn on. Not the opposite.

edit: the shorting was due to corrosion from water getting into the contacts of the plug. The solution is silicone sealing the wires at the plug, so water running down the wires can't reach the plug contacts. If it's already corroded, you'd have to remove the plug and attach a new one and seal that.

I tried to remote start the car and it didn’t work. I took it to the dealer since it was on my way from work so we’ll see what they find

Update: dealer called me and said that it loooks to be an electrical issue and that they need an extra day with it to diagnose more. So much for something simple

Well the dealer still can’t figure it out. I just hope it’s covered under warranty

Update
the dealer tech couldn't figure out the electrical issue so they opened up a case with GM to help them.
We'll see what happens.

I take it that is a thermostat on the fan unit. Nice to know it is a separately serviceable piece.
