2023 Phasing out LT1 Engine?
So Lethal is reporting inside information, that he said in comments is confirmed, that the 2023 SS trim will get the C7 LT2 engines bringing up a potential 495 HP, 470 torque.
I'm guessing for 2023, GM in this case might just phase out the LT1 trim level and going from LT to SS? Thoughts?

If they phase out the LT1 engine, then I guess the LT1 trim will hence forth become the LT2 trim?
I would have imagined the LT1 was going to be offered up to the last camaro ss ever built, but I could be mistaken. |

He misquotes the trim levels as lt1,lt2,lt3 instead of 1lt,2lt, and 3lt

Don't hold your breath.
If they phase out the LT1, they're probably phasing out the Camaro along with it. |

That was my first thought. I would doubt GM would do a 1-2 year LT2 in the Camaro. It does not make any sense. It would be cool as hell, but I cant see them doing it. At all. GM seems to have zero interest in the Camaro.

Really doubt it. I'm not in anyway connected to the car industry though. Heck I barely check here for the crappy renders and rumors y'all like to post.

From my understanding the LT2 engine was developed with the midengine setup in mind and won't easily fit in a frontengine car.
With all ressources being pulled from the Camaro6 in recent years (they just rename their sticker packages every now and then) and the electric successor being teased a lot for a while now, I highly doubt they would invest that much to put in a brand new engine in the Camaro6. Especially with Mustang7 launching in early 2023 it's already a lost game to try to sell the Camaro6 further, even with a new engine the interior will be highly outdated in comparison and they can't fix all the reasons (like visibility, trunk and interior space) why people do not buy a Camaro now by that.

They may prebuild enough LT1s for the alleged 2024 Final Edition Camaros and then dump it

I would think it would piss off a lot of people that bought SS Camaros in 2021 and 2022 while dealing with COVID-19 delays, chip shortages, possible magnesium shortages, and all other kinds of constraints. That would be a nice slap in the face for those people who waited to hand you money while other competitors had cars more readily available.

Didn't he recently say the same thing about the LT5? Surely they won't do both, so that means his info is completely wrong on one of the rumors, and easily possible that it's wrong on both counts. Believe it when you see GM announce it and not before.

The only way this would make sense is if the Camaro was the only one using the LT1 engine (which it actually might be) and it costs more to keep the LT1 engine in production than it would be to drop an LT2 in the Camaro instead.

Wasn’t the LT2 designed specifically for mid engine? Doubt they’d spend the money on the R&D to make it fit. Him and his “sources” are wrong a lot
