Goodyear F1 Question
Ok, I am not a 1LE but have replica wheels with the same tires. Mine seem to be wearing very fast. I have about 6000 miles on mine and the tire store said my rears are about done. I have not raced, no burnouts and have only noticed spinning lately on the cold streets even in Texas.
Mine is not a daily, so I won't be driving in the rain, snow or ice, so I kept these on for now. Plus in TX our winters are really more cool than very cold most of the time. Are you all getting more mileage out of them? Is it possible he tested the tires in the wrong spot? They still look pretty good to me. Would love the input you all have. I have 285 fronts but 305 rears. I was leaning toward the hot summer melting them some in TX and the fact that I have a Z/28 spoiler with wickerbill that may be creating extra down force to help me wearing them down. I love the performance of these on the street for just how balanced the car feels, but going through tires at 10K or less while acceptable (monetarily) seems pretty quick. Thanks! Yea, I know I am not a 1LE... I have some inspired mods to mine, but not trying to be a poser, just love some of looks, plus I am an auto. Accompanying Z/28 splitter is going on in January. Already have it in the garage with all of the accompanying brackets/bolt kits. |

I love my Goodyear f1 tire but I only hear people getting g 6-10 k out of them. I have about 3k mile on mine. They still look decent.

The Goodyears are purpose made "summer" tires for sticking to a track or road course. Their tread life is horrid as a result of the soft sticky compound. Don't expect any more than 8-12K miles of "street legal" tread. Your shop owner is probably being on the careful side... Pics would help us to see what kind of wear you have and if you need more or less pressure in them, etc. Hopefully you are already aware not to drive on these in colder temps (below 40 degrees.)

Running 33-35psi in all 4 full time. They heat up to maybe 36-37. Wil try to get a shot of the tread tonight. They still look fine to me. But I also stay out of the wet. Got completely sideways in 2nd the other day unintentionally (55* day) and spinning was much more easy below 70*. But I never intentionally try to peel out, but in the summer they really hooked well for spirited quick light takeoffs that were not full throttle. Still love the design and the looks of them though. |

My car is my DD and I do drive in the rain. Got 16K miles on the rears and am approaching 20K miles with the original fronts. For tire pressure, I start off at 34 psi cold. I remember when my wife saw my car for the first time, she asked, 'does it come with new tires?' BTW, you have a great looking car!

That is funny about the wife asking about if it came with new tires. I had to show my wife the mold marks on mine to show her they were new tires. LOL |

I remember seeing a post about a guy who had got almost 50k on these tires. I'll look for that thread.

I just changed all four at 15k miles, and kept the two front which still had 4/32's for track or spare use. The rears were around 2/32, and probably could have squeezed another 1000 miles out of them, but decided against it.
That said, if you're getting "completely sideways" in second, you're driving aggressively, and shouldn't expect to get more than 10k out of them. Be careful, dude. Either you're exceeding the tires capability, or your own......the street is no place to be sideways.

The sideways was I think a combination of cold street (50*) and rpm range. It was accidental and when I realized how slick these were I backed out of it fast. Never had these tires even chirp on warmer streets. I am not really overly worried about the mileage, but it just seems low for not having tracked the car and no burnouts. Don't really drive that aggressive, that was my first day back in the car after a month and I just forgot how fast it was. I think I exceeded the grip ability for sure that day, but it was still fun day. Ever notice how much faster your car feels after not driving it for a few days? I had not driven it in 3 weeks and just had permagrin all over again. I don't drive reckless on the streets, that was just a oversight of expectations... briefly. LOL I could not believe how slick these are on a cold street. There is no joke to the summer only part! |

I think he must have measured wrong. He said they were at 4/32. These still look good to me. Both rears look like this one.

Yep..those look pretty decent. Coming up on 7K miles on mine....don't like the cold mornings or super wet roads, but I'll take the bad with the good for the warm days!!!

When I first got on here, I read about people only getting 8-10k out of their tires.
I just hit 14K miles on mine. The rears probably have another 1-1.5k miles on them left. The fronts have another 3k mikes left. Im not the easiest driver on the tires either. That was a pretty funny joke about the spoiler and wicker bill being the root cause... Lol
