Remove Side-Mirror Housing
Trying to install blindspot cameras which requires the camera to be hinged underneath the side-mirror, however they're wired and I'd like to have it hidden inside the housing compartment of the side-mirrors so it's not dangling outside for everyone and anyone to see. How exactly would I go about removing the side-mirror housing and gaining access from there into the cabin of the vehicle for a wire to run through? I know I'll need to drill a hill for the camera and what-not.

I'd like to know too! I want to paint the mirrors over the winter so I'll need to remove the whole assembly.

Lethal Camaro has a youtube video on how to remove the door panels. That would be step one. I was told that there are 3 bolts that hold the mirror onto the door, so I guess remove the bolts, disconnect the wiring harness and done.

If you decide to remove the mirror, be very careful with the reinstallation, because some mirrors are prone to whistling at 35-45 mph especially when not (re)attached correctly. Many threads on the problem here, see for example https://www.camaro6.com/forums/showthread.php?t=495500

Once off push the mirror in on one side and shine a light inside to see where the screws are to remove the internal mirror assembly. It's very similar to how the 5th gens were setup. You can even just pull the glass off by just reaching in on the side and carefully pulling it outwards.That makes reaching the screws easier but your more likely to break the glass that way. but its doable. Easier to just remove the screws and pull out the entire assembly in one piece. Look in the Camaro 5 forums for several post with detailed pics of the side mirror removal. The process is the same as ours. I did it multiple times on my 5th gen |
