17/18 manuals bogging and stalling
Hi all
I currently have a 5th gen ZL1. There is nearly new 2018 ZL1 manual transmission that I’m considering. I’ve been hearing about the 17/18 manuals bogging and stalling. Do all the 18’s have this problem? I see the Chevrolet offers a download that some say fixes the problem. I notice that some people are going to a ported throttled body. I’m wondering if I should just look for an automatic. |

If you love manual trans then you know you are going to get one. Me...ive had 2 6speeds and was tired of shifting in traffic as well as not being able to control myself to point where im getting a ticket every other month. I only got this A10 after id researched the trans...sounded amazing and honestly i had high hopes. This car with the aA10 has surpassed my wildest expectations. I say you either get a 1LE for the track or an A10 for every other reason. Grear street car...drag strip...daily driver...shit i can get over 28mi/gallon if i want. The performance shift mode is incredible! Special transmission!

I'd say go drive it and see what you think. I'm a manual lover, but I would never trade my A10 for one. I'd have one of each if I could afford it and had the garage space.

While the bog is there... After the first week of ownership, I got used to it and just modulate the clutch a tad more than my old 2013 1LE, and give it a touch more throttle.
I am not saying the bog isn't real; but with practice, it becomes a non-issue. Still thinking about a TM TB, but the car is drive able without it.

Don’t let the ‘17 / ‘18 M6 bog issue bother you, it a phenomenal car,
I have no problem driving mine, as said before, just a touch of throttle if you’re lugging it off the line. Manual or A10, you’ll be happy! Get the 6th Gen

I love my '18 manual! i dont drive in city traffic much so not much issue there. i read here that there is bog, but i can honestly say i have never noticed nor have i stalled mine from a start. Maybe i got lucky, but most likely i just drive different and/or it doesnt phase me.
I am interested in a TB for even better throttle response according to the others in the group. Seems like a good inexpensive mod plus easy to switch back for warranty work if needed. good luck. you cant go wrong with either M6 or A10. |

I have the M6, love and hate it, LOL. Love it because its a manual. Hate it for drag strip bog. If you don't drag race then go M6. If you drag race get the A10.

I have never commented on this topic. But dumping the clutch at high RPMs... What do you think will happen? It will either spin or hook/bogg.
You have to release the clutch in a manner to get the best of both. For drag racing an auto is the most consistent option. |

The bog is real. I have had two brand new Gen5 camaros, and now this Gen6 ZL1 and all were manual trans. This bog isnt a deal killer, but it is very noticeable. Drive it a little and you kinda get used to it.
But if I dont drive the car for a while, I have stalled it a couple of times just because its just there. The M6 in these cars is so smooth and fun though.

I have an 18 M6 and have honestly never had the bog issue in daily driving. I've tracked the car 3 times at HPD events and never had an issue either. From all that I've read it appears it only happens when launching the car, which I haven't had a chance to do yet, but even if it did bog I wouldn't care since I don't drag race. I think a couple of folks with 17 M6s have reported the issue in daily driving, but maybe that's just a fluke. Also, I had a GEN 5 SS M6 and this manual transmission is way better, a lot smoother. Love the active rev match as well. Shift lights in the HUD are pretty useful as well.

The bog is a nonissue - just modulate the clutch. Make your decision based on wether you like auto's or manuals. Personally I prefer manuals in my sports cars/bikes and auto's in everything else.

Unless you are going to track it frequently, and happen to be good at it, you won't notice a bog.

Anyone know the TSB for stalling / bogging in Gen6 ZL1 ? Mine is bad .Tried every way to get a smooth takeoff . I'm 72 and have driven hi performance manual shifting cars since i was 16 so i know how to release a clutch.
