All you folks saying GM will never do anything...do you see how media attention and customer complaints can force a company to fix a bad situation?

Now let's do the same for the theft situation.

I mean for failing to support owners a solution for car theft. Make that will force them to take action.

I like the way these companies always state they respect your privacy, except when there's money to be made. In a lot of cases the damage has already been done. Guys are paying more for their insurance and they are wondering why. If this goes to a classic action suit, many may ask for their share. Watch for lawyers to jump on this opportunity.

I agree. JLR changed it ways, after a threatened lawsuit and fixed it security flaws and thefts went way down for it vehicles. Call GM, if you have not already.

This will be one to keep an eye on. I'd be curious *what* was shared with the analytics firms and how GM is able to spin this in the lawsuit.

I'm not sure that a VIN is PII by itself, or that Onstar even violated its own data sharing terms - that's for the lawyers to figure out. If this is Insurance companies supposedly buying depersonalized data from an analytics firm, but being able to make the connection on their end (having VIN, driving event information, and the primary driver's demographic information) then, is GM liable for what insurance companies do with that data?

Put some Jiffy Pop in the microwave. This is going to be interesting...
