ZL1 exhaust leak? Metallic sound at cold start

Does anyone has a similar issue? Metallic “tsss-tss-tsss” sound, coming from the front of the car, so not the exhaust flaps rattle. It is most pronounced at cold start, but also can be heard after car is warmed up, for example at lower rpm’s when rolling from stand still. My car did not have this sound from factory, and it appeared at around 3K miles and a few track days I had. Any input would be appreciated before I go to the dealer and they say “it’s normal”. Car is fully stock.

Yep. Both my 21 and my 18 did that. Goes away after a few minutes as it warms up.

The valvetrain and injectors are a little noisy in these cars, the valvetrain noise gets quieter though as the engine warms up some.

It does go away but not entirely. My car is a manual and when I apply clutch to start moving at lower revs - it still can be heard after car is warmed up. Are you sure it’s the engine and not the exhaust? Any idea how to eliminate this sound?

Turn the car off.

Is the exhaust stock? If so, its not an exhaust leak.

Did you hit something or drag the exhaust across something like a huge speed bump? Otherwise, its not the exhaust.

My F-150 does that. Took me forever to figure out what it was. I ended up taking the truck in for routine service and the chief mechanic said that I had a warped manifold.

When it heats up and the metal expands it goes away. When cold, you can hear the valves loud and clear.

He said it wasn't urgent for me to fix it but just for my awareness that this is what it was. I wonder if you have something similar going on.

He doesnt want to hear that. He wants to hear its wrong, broke and this is how you fix it. It doesnt matter that you and me both said our cars all do it.

Yes it did. They all do. Car is normal. Thatll be $250 for a 100% perfectly accurate internet diagnosis. Or you can pay your dealer as much to waste their time and yours to tell you the same thing.

Don’t judge for other people, judge for yourself.
If it’s normal, then car would have this sound straight from factory, however it did not. So what you’re saying is BS. I bought my car new and know exactly how it was. If it’s common for this sound to appear later or after tracking the car - that is another issue and good to know!
