The heated seats in my 2014 2LT were way better than my 2016 SS. Also heated seats in parents Kia are almost too warm.

Most modern cars regulate voltage use much better. The battery really not used to run the car, outside the circuit loop during normal operation. The voltage is regulated so what you see when the charging gauge is lower than 14v is the actual consumer consumption. The battery is the starting and aux reserve and the alternator is the operating component.

The system just monitors battery voltage and recharges when needed. Older cars always ran the alternator in a charging mode putting out anywhere from 13.5 to 15 volts or so. Turning the alternator off intermittently reduces load on the engine and improves fuel economy. That is the main reason it is done this way.
