2016 SS Lifter Tick? (NOT DI)

I've owned and been around many direct injection cars, including newer Lexus's which have insanely loud direct injection, I know what DI sounds like on the new LT1, and this is not that. This noise is only coming from the driver side bank (sounds like the head). In person it is much more prominent, but you can definitely hear it towards the end of the video here where it actually starts to rattle at ~2k RPM. Sounds like lifter tick to me.

BONE STOCK (other than a Mishimoto catch can), 25,400 miles, M6, 2016. I heard this noise slightly when I picked the car up at 23,500 miles, but it is much louder now. Oil changes only at the dealer.

Am I crazy? Is this normal?

If anyone has any insight or knowledge about this possible issue, your response is much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Just scheduled an appointment with my local Chevy dealer on Monday to see what they say. Know one of the advisors there, hopefully he takes care of me. Will post with updates.

Man, the more LT1s I listen to, the more I’m starting to believe that they all have this tick. I sure as hell hope that it ain’t no bad lifter. If that’s the case then everyone here with an LT1 has bad lifters then.

May be AFM lifters. The M6 has the AFM lifters/hardware. AFM is off/tuned out on the M6. That is my under standing of the AFM BS on the M6.

I just ran a search out of curiosity on this site and there really hasn't been many posts on this subject and most that have, have had track use. Let's not panic and start thinking everyone has bad lifters.

And the AFM lifters used to have issues... I don't know if they've ever been updated.

Better remove that Mishimoto catch can before you take it to the dealer. You are still covered by powertrain warranty but there are horror stories about catch cans being blamed for problems. Not all dealers care but just saying...

I had to listen to it a few times. I've heard exhaust leaks that made a similar sound.

Who knows what it's been through, or how it was taken care of? Good luck.

There's a TSB for the HP fuel line adjustment (bracket?) that can make a lifter-like "clack" under certain conditions on the driver side.

Could be a lifter or possibly HPFP.

Huh, I was unaware of that. Thank you for the info, I'll see if I can pull up some info about that.

Just being sarcastic. That sound from OPs camaro is definitely not DI related. Much louder. I just hope it doesn’t end up being something to complicated or costly for him.

They ended up telling me it was the high pressure fuel pump. It's strange that it only makes this noise when the engine is hot.

I guess this is another reason why I won't be modifying the car until the powertrain warranty expires.

I did get free front sway bar endlinks out of this fiasco, though. Haha

Thank you everyone for your input.
