Why doesn't anyone sell just the rotors?

(not a new post topic I know, just want to see if anyone had fresh leads)

I thought one benefit of a 2 piece setup was being able to purchase just rotors? I'm in need of all 4 rotors already, and I've scoured the net for just rotors..and can't find them. Heck I can't even find any complete non-oem front sets.

The ZL1 has been out long enough where you would think someone would offer them.

..I know girodisc sells a setup, but you need buy a brand new 2 piece setup in order to use girodisc replacement blanks. This defeats the purpose.

Front Rotors:

When I ordered the front rotors the rear rotors were on back order. Bought non-GM rotors from Ken at KNS Brakes.

I don't need the hat, just the front rotors, no hats. They are a 2 piece assembly. Why bother with a 2 piece setup if you can't buy just one of the pieces?

So, you are looking for just rotor rings, not whole rotors. In the parts catalog, the rotor, is both the hat and the ring.

You are apparently only looking for the rings.

The idea behind the 2 piece rotors in not servicability. Especially in a warranty situation, the manufacturer is not going to pay a tech time to take apart a rotor and re-assemble when they can pay far less time to just replace the whole thing. The aluminum hat is there for weight savings and quite possibly heat transfer away from the ring.

The brake situation for the ZL1 is crap, spent a while looking for something and eventually bought the Girodisc rotors.

The SS 1LE and Z06 are the same for iron rotors. I think they're both like 370mm front. The ZL1 and ZL1 1LE are different, they use 390mm front rotors. The Z07 (carbon ceramic) uses 394mm front rotors I believe. They don't all mix and match with each other.

Hey Rabbit, you just used carbon front rotors and swapped pads using the original ZL1 calipers?

If so, wow. What a great idea. Have you tracked your car with this setup? How is the feel?
