Not sure if I find this amusing, sad or infuriating.

I like many people here have been thinking about adding the GM CAI to my 2016 2SS. I've been weighing the results from dyno's here, mixed as they are, sound difference, etc. and decided that I would like to add it as a first step towards a few other upgrades. As I had to put the car into the dealership for the wonderful trans shudder anyway it seemed like the right time.

I thought what the heck, if the price is even close to reasonable I will go ahead and have them do it start to finish so asked for an estimate. The grand total??? Can you guess?? No need to, the cost from this particular dealer- $855 with tax. I think my jaw actually hit the floor. I asked for the price breakdown and they want full retail on the unit, that is what it is and they want two hours of labor to remove the old one, install the new one and do the programming.

I tried telling them that there is no way it should take that long or cost that much and that part, the programming at least is included in the unit price. The service guy glossed over it and kept firm to their price. I said no problem, I can buy and install it myself and bring it in for the program. Response... paraphrasing- if you install it, we will charge you labor for the flash no matter what GM says or won't do it at all.

Anyone here have a recommendation for a trustworthy dealer in the central New Jersey area to do the program? I'll just go there. I wouldn't go back to this dealer anyway. Brought the car in for the trans and they broke my trunk divider so I can't put the top down until it is fixed, yet another trip to the dealer to get that fixed.

It's reasonable to pay for flash programming since you are not paying labor for physical hardware install. Suck it up.

I am happy to suck it up as long as it is reasonable. IMO $139 +tax just for the labor to do the tune is not reasonable.

It is not reasonable to pay for flash programming when the documentation from GM that is included with the intake clearly states where to charge the labor (read - NOT to the customer).

I’d simply find another dealer in the area.

TBH, when I installed mine and took it in, I didn’t even call first. I made an appointment online, took it in, had the paperwork in had, service advisor read it over, made and copy, got me a ride home and within 2 hours it was ready for pickup.

I had similar situation when I carried mine in.

I installed it my self. Dealer said no problem to that. Service writer copied first page, called the number on it, and 3 hours later I was back on the streets. I also had another issue worked on while I was there so that’s why it was 3 hours.

You definitely need to find a new Chevy Dealer because I had no problem bring my Camaro back to Holz Chevy to get the tune done.

My tune was done while I waited. First service advisor I spoke to tried to charge me, another advisor overheard this and explained that it was included in the price of the CAI.

Not seen anyone dump the tune from the CARB version.

So are there three intakes?
One that have the airflow straighteners bars outside the maf, no bars, and then the no bars with hydrocarbon absorber pad.

The last one is the only one available now?

There should only be 2 to the best of my knowledge.

The original one that wasn’t CARB certified and the CARB certified model.

As for the airflow straightener are you talking about the piece that goes between between the intake and the throttle body? If so that has been part of the GM kit from day one. It was later added to the Cold Air Inductions model after the fact (they are the ones who make/license the intake to GM).
