Like someone else said the main problem is upon startup, I would bet they will be able to figure it out so that we can have a 6L, probably won't see another 7L though unfortunately.
No one said it has to be 5.5 liters but the issue with DOHC is, the more displacement, the much bigger the engine. The 6.2 LT1 is about the same size and weight as the 5.0 Coyote, despite the Coyote having smaller bore centers. DOHC is massive for the same displacement and they may not be able to physically fit a 6.2 liter DOHC V8 in the Camaro.

It will fit with no problem....if a 90 degree DOHC 4.2 or 5.5 will fit then a 6.2 will fit since cubic inches has nothing to do with external dimensions of the V8 engines.

The question you need to ask yourself is if GM is working on a radically different V8 with exotic degrees with respect to see angles, just saying, this could be a clean sheet game changer engine family so any and everything is possible.

My money is on a 6.2 DOHC V8 with heads from the new engine family going into the mid-rear engined Corvette, but I'm probably wrong.

Of course displacement has to do with the external dimensions of the block. The reason Ford sticks with 5.0 liters is because the block is not capable of much more. The 5.2 Voodoo is literally the maximum displacement they can get from the current engine architecture.

The small block Chevy has 4.40" bore centers. and a deck height of 9.24". The Coyote has bore centers of 3.94" and a deck height of 8.97". That's a huge difference in usable block to increase displacement.

A 4.8, 5.3, 6.0,6.2, and a 7.0 LS block fits in the same space. The difference is if the aftermarket offers a different block maybe but also various deck heights will make a difference.

And none of those are DOHC, which is the issue with DOHC.

It's apples to oranges.

The LT6 and LT7 are 5.5L DOHC 32V engines.

The LT6 is the NA version of this:

C8 LT7 twin turbo hybrid - speculation puts combined hybrid hp near 1000hp.

I look at that pic and say to myself, "man I am glad I don't have all that crap under my hood". What a nightmare to work on. NA engines for me.

Why does it have to fit under the current hood?
A nice sexy little power bulge on the hood will be cool.
.....like the old cowl induction hoods.

Yes, gearing can offset the torque loss, however it also reduces efficiency. So now we're losing speed at top end, and losing fuel efficiency as well. It's robbing Peter to pay Paul.

However, with sufficient compression and duel fuel injection combined with the right cam specs, it could be a fun engine in the car. I don't see anything near 600, much less 700 hp out of it, but if we're talking about a road course/autocross car 460 to 500 is plenty.

Yes, if you dont make up for it with a 7 speed which will have a higher last gear.

Well, yeah, but realistically how often will it even see 7th gear? I've daily driven my M6 2011 SS for almost four years and have gone into 6th maybe a 1/2 dozen times.

I get that, but for the gas guzzler tax this helps out, can save you as much as $1500 on the price of the car.

Remember the videos of the new ZL1LE where at 75MPH in 6th your doing 2500RPM if it had a 7th your down to 1900RPM that help you keep it out of boost RPM and your gas miles improve, that brings your gas guzzler tax down.

Aren't DOHC also much wider than OHV engines of the same displacement?

In the old days they where wider, think in the old days valves where at 23 degrees and now there 1/2 that so the head is not as wide as in the past.
