Skip shift?

The owners manual states that, when skip shift is activated, you must shift from 1 to 4. I've noticed that i am still able to shift to 3rd instead of 4th. Anyone else notice this?

Yes, I do that anytime I get caught by the skip shift. I don’t like lugging the engine by going into fourth. Third gear works much better.

Same here! I have noticed if you slip it out of first and in to neutral a little it will go in to second. I have a skip shift eliminator and just haven’t had time to pop it in.

I put the eliminator in. It’s extremely tight in there. Do yourself a favor and get a kid with small hands under there to help.

The result was well worth the effort though.

Shift from first to second above 19 mph and skip shift will never bother you.

Since the late 80’s, you can get around the skip shift or CAGS (Computer Aided Gear Selection) if you get the rpm’s high enough, it will drop into 2nd as god intended. In our governments infinite wisdom to mandate fuel economy standards, “skip shift” was implemented by GM engineers to help meet or exceed fuel economy CAFE standards yet the work around is to rev higher, thereby burning more fuel. Brilliant!
