What's your ideal 18" tire size for track use?

What's the ideal 18" tire size for track use?
Ideally not a funny size that will make the diff/stability control angry...

The diff/doesnt' care so long as the tires are the same size in the rear. Stablity control will work just fine if you run square, or stay w/in a few percent of OE front to rear overall diameter.

Answer depends on width. If i were running a 18x10 square:

285/645 Pirelli DH's are terrific, that's what I use on my 18 x 10's
295/30 Toyo R888R
295/40 RS4's
285/35 RS4's
285/30 RE71R's
285/30 Direzza ZIII (brand new tire)
295/30 Hoosier R7
295/40 Hoosier R7
285/30 MPSC2's
295/30 MPSC2's

If you were running a 18 x 10.5:

305/35 R888 (old compound)
305/35 NT01

There are more options, but these are the majority of them. If I were looking for a street tire, I'd do the RS4. If i were looking for a 100 treadwear track tire, I'd lean toward the 295/30 R888R (cheaper and better gearing than 305 options though NT01's are my all time fav tire). If I were considering slicks, I'd do the Pirelli.

Thanks for the quick and detailed response!
1. Wouldn't the car look super funny with 25" tall tires compared to stock 26.8" ?
2. I assume with 10" rims I should not have front clearance issues if offset is 20-25 ?

Here is how mine looks on the 285/645 PZeros. OD is 25.2. I think it looks fantastic. Yes, 18x10 ET 25 with a 5mm front spacer, so effectively ET 20

Sorry to join this thread late - what wheels can I use to run 295/30-18 or 295/30-19 identical on all 4 corners? What is the width and offset that works (preferably with no spacers)?

I mostly want to improve gearing by going to smaller tires - gears are just too long on M6.

What cold/hot pressures are you finding on those DH's?

24.5-25 cold. Aiming for 30-31 hot. 2 full install laps are required to build pressures. Hate starting that low on a heavy car, but it’s needed to get hot pressures right.

The DH’s are incredibly durable too as take-offs. This set did 1 day at NCM in October, 3 days at VIR in November, and still felt great at NCM for a 1 day a couple weeks ago.

Have you taken tire temps at all? I'm assuming those things like camber.

No easy answer to your question. Yes, 18/19 wheels will work square, but you need a small front spacer. 19x10 ET25 will work for a 285/295 square setup with a 5mm front spacer. A 10.5 et22 square will also work with a 5mm spacer, for a 305 square setup though you have to grind on the front strut body for clearance. Glamcem’s build thread should help shed some light.

No, never used a pyrometer. Yeah- at -3.0 up front they wear pretty well, but could use -3.2-3.3 (wear outer shoulder most). Thank god for a square setup with DH’s, that what makes them last. Rears wear inner 1/3 most just like street tires. Shocking considering only -1.7 camber out back.

Did you use a ‘simple’ spacer or hub centric? Did you install longer studs in the front ? thanks!

H&R 5mm hubcentric. No, OE studs. If I were going to use a thicker spacer (even 7mm), I'd put on longer studs.
