I finally got the dealerships attention on this when the service manager called about the 6 quart oil change on the 2SS!

Their therapy was to change the diff oil, drive it, figure 8's, bring it back and drain and refill. He also mentioned that the fluid is the oil plus additive.

Noise was less noticeable on first turn, and nonexistent after that until just recently (about 2000 miles). I am going to get the same treatment next oil change in a week or so, and hope for the best. I would say this must be on their radar.

Build Date and Mileage

I saw this thread and read everything here, called the dealer last week and mentioned it. He took some notes, and was going to check into it. I was surprised today when they called and wanted me to bring it in so they can change the rearend fluid. I'll update everyone on the results in a few days. Thanks to everyone for their contribution.

My car's build date was 2/27/2016 and mileage is about 14,300. This info was requested by someone in an earlier part of this thread.

Thank you for posting this. Now I have something to show the dumb ass at the dealership who wanted to charge me to check the rear end fluid for metal shavings after I explained the problem and the processes other dealerships have gone though.

I am at the point that I am talking to my dealer about them buying it back; long shot I know. Chevy needs a fix and just changing the fluid isn't working. After the first attempt to change the fluid it made the car and noise a lot worse. My dealer thinks that they will come up with a replacement part of something by spring.
Hi, Sounds like your differential is locking up. I would think this would lead to complete failure sooner, rather than later. It can't be good for your tires either. Hope your dealership takes it seriously.

just got mine back last night for having a new carrier put in. so fluid, but still to early to tell if this will do the same. They told me to take it easy just as if I were breaking it in new from factory. not sure I can spell that 1500 mile torcher again.

The dealership was able to duplicate the noise this time. They changed the differential fluid with Genuine GM Differential Lubricant part number 88862624. I heard the noise pulling out from the dealership and turning left.

I think I'll try the figure 8 break-in method and report back back with good or bad results.

Mine is at the dealer getting the first oil change at 2000 miles. I get the groan too when I make the first few turns in the morning. Like a whaaaaaah whaaaaaah noise. almost like the sound of a tire is rubbing the body. I think its just the limited slip making noise because oil hasn't circulated thru it yet. I dont think its a big deal, but better safe than sorry. I mentioned it to the dealer and they said they'd change the fluid. we'll see what happens.

I think you all are about to find out that they may issue some sort of recall with enough complaints. again, by doing the flushes will not rectify this. The though by doing the flushes then proceeding the figure 8 pattern is to integrate the new fluid with in the clutch plates. more people than not are experiencing no results. When I went to get mine done, the carriers were on back order. took about a week - 10 days for it to come in.

Car is going back to the dealer 11/30/2016 for the chatter noise. This is after they already replaced the rear diff a month ago. Called Chevrolet customer service to notify them the unit was going back to the dealer for the third time and maybe they could send a district rep/tech out. They seemed to care less and said "we don't send people to the dealership for repairs." They did care after I stated about just hanging up with my attorney and he advised me to let them know of the issue and a lemon law claim will be filed after the forth failed attempt.

Also, power brakes went out after the rear diff was replaced. Car acted like manual brakes and would pulsate the abs pump once I got under 10mph. Turned the car off, restarted, and it's been fine now. Im just getting aggravated at this time.

I still have to bring mine back after having the fluid changed once already. I have 11000 km ( 6835 miles ) on mine, it has the differential problem, also a annoying light engine tap/tick that you can hear from the inside and seems to come from driver side dashboard, it happens when accelerating and deceleration and is more pronounced at 3k rpm, now I have been noticing that some times the car has like a misfire or little shake when stopping. Very frustrating. My car had no issues from when purchased and drove off the dealer lot, but like a lot of other 6 gen owners, after putting on a only a few miles the car seems to be falling apart. I hope this car does not end up like my 2015 Cadiallac ATS premium, that was the worst car I have ever owned, it was at the dealership more then in my driveway.

Just picked mine up at the dealership made the noise as I was leaving. I'm sure there is a recall coming as well. They just want to have inventory of what they need before it's issued.

I'm curious if this is a problem isolated by date. Mine was built 2/18. How about y'all?

Getting a weird tire type rubbing noise when its cold or just starting to drive and i turn mainly left. Goes away after a bit of driving so i thought it was the one of the rear tires at first. I hear the sound coming from the rear passengers side. Looks like i will have to bring it in to see what the story is but it seems to me like what has been talked about here :( Also mine was built before 2016 so no clue if its isolated to cars before a certain build date.
