Exactly - which is what would make me very nervous about just swapping the pump and calling it good. Other damage may not be immediately obvious

It took 4 weeks to for the dealership to get a replacement pump, and another week to get it installed, but finally getting my car back later this week. Unfortunately not getting much guidance from the dealership re any specific break-in instructions - if any.
For those that have had an oil pump failure and are now driving with a replacement pump, did you follow any specific break-in instructions or can you just drive it hard and go straight to the track ? Experiences appreciated. |

This poll needs to have a vote for “it hasn’t happened on my car” so we can get an idea of sample size

Forum mods could probably tell you how many ZL1 owners are registered on this forum by year

Appreciate the insight. It's disconcerting not getting any clarity from the dealership/GM on this issue, but unless advised otherwise, I'll be going straight to the track with new oil pump. Good to know about your post replacement experience.

When the oil pump fails does it give any warning like a CEL?

So, how do you know the new pump is an improved new version and wont fail again? Neither GM nor the dealer is able to tell if anything is really changed and improved. WTF?

All I know is that (according to GM) the new oil pump has a different part number than the original. That said, I'm not really sure what the difference (if any) is between the original oil pump and the new oil pump. FWIW, it appears that those who have had already had the original pump changed, have not (yet at least) had any subsequent oil pump issues. Small sample size for sure and still early days for the replacement pumps. All in all, it's not entirely confidence inspiring..... |
