Cruze or Malibu with the turbo option gets my vote.

By the way, since you're getting reimbursed for mileage, how about a Malibu Hybrid? 49 City/43 Highway.

I was in the same boat as you a few years back. Had a 2012 2SS and a Toyota Tacoma. Neither were great on gas and my new job required a lot of travel to clients. After doing my research I decided that I wanted something that would give me long term reliability and at least 30 mpg. I wanted something that would run upwards of 300K miles without much fuss. When you start looking at cars that will do this the list gets pretty short pretty quick.
I narrowed it down to a 4 cyl Accord or Camry. In the end the Honda CVT scared and annoyed the crap outta me so I went with the Camry. Its a 2012 SE SE (yes that's right) so it doesn't look too bad and it consistently returns 32 mpg around town and anywhere between 38 to 41 mpg on the hwy depending on how flat the land is. Worst I've ever seen on the hwy was 34 MPG and that was driving through Colorado in the mountains. To date it has 93K on it and I'm done nothing but tires, Trans flush and Oil changes. The front Pads are getting thin so I'm going to swap them out before they start making noise. Best part is I bought it when the reimbursement was .56 a mile and the car paid its self off in 38000 miles or about 18 months. Granted I've spent almost $8K in gas and another $1500 in maintenance but those costs will be there with any car. |

Id say keep what you have they are super nice. The cost of the car to the amount you save in gas wont equal out for a while.
