Bluetooth issues, extremely low volume on phone
Since purchasing my car last month, every time I make a hands free call, the gal's voice asking me what to do is loud, but when I get connected, I can barely hear the person I'm talking with. Phone volume is max, car volume while on the phone is max. I have done "forget" phone and paired again.
I googled and it seems a lot of people with iPhone 8's, like me, are experiencing the same thing. BUT, it didn't do this with my 2017 SS 1LE, so I'm thinking it's something to do with the new infotainment system version. I recently did a system update for the car, so I'm gonna "forget" the phone one more time and pair it again. Can anyone shed some light on this. It's really a major issue not being able to use the phone. Thanks.

Do you have an IPhone? I had this problem after my last update, after you connect via Bluetooth, check the volume on the phone again, you may need to turn it up. I wasn't getting any sound when I connected my phone via Bluetooth, the song would come up and I could tell the song was playing, but no sound, then looked at the volume on my phone and it was turned completely down.

Sound volume on connected vehicle is controlled to some extent by volume on phone itself - on some devices called "Media volume"
Turn it up ? I have to keep mine near max so that bluetooth volume matches all other sound sources, radio, gps, etc.

Thanks guys. After I deleted the phone and paired it again. It was the same. Then, while on the phone I saw that the volume was in fact at the lowest.
However, what I didn’t realize is that while on the phone, the volume buttons are active even when the phone is locked. I keep the phone in my pocket and it’s a very tight fit. I think the volume button is being pressed from the pressure in my pocket. For now on I will keep the phone out of my pocket and see if that does the trick. I will also make sure the volume is up when I start the car. But again, it didn’t do this in my ‘17 SS. 🤷*♂️

I believe the mystery is solved. I got into the car this morning, made certain the phone volume was at maximum, and set the phone down. I then started the car. After the system booted, I checked the phone. The volume was at MINIMUM!
Evidently, this new version of the infotainment system, at least with my iPhone 8, automatically sets the phone volume to minimum on start up.

I think you can change that setting in the infotainment system. I haven't messed with it but I seem to remember seeing something like 'startup volume'

Yes, I saw that. Mine was set at the mid point so not sure that affects start up phone volume. I'll play with it as well. Thanks.

I was new to iPhones last year and am fairly new to the tech in cars that connects to phones (Bluetooth, Carplay, etc.). One thing I have learned to be cautious about is that my iPhone XR has a separate volume for EVERYTHING and there aren't necessarily settings for them unless that thing is active.
Media volume is a different setting for bluetooth than when plugged in for CarPlay, which is different then voice volume when on a call through CarPlay, which is different from voice volume when on a call through bluetooth, which are all different from media/voice volume setting when not connected to the car at all, etc etc. Always check the phone volume, when actually using the function you want to control the volume of. |
