AY6 grind, 1st to 2nd...

Ever since I installed my Hurst I have experienced a grind (sometimes more violent than others) when I try and do a quick 1-2 shift. Never had this before with the stock shifter.

Anyone else? I'm a little concerned about warranty coverage because of the Hurst...

Did you install the shifter yourself? If the grinding problem did not occur with the stock shifter and it started happening RIGHT AFTER you installed the hurst shifter, then somehow, the installation was not 100% correct.

But if you installed the Hurst shifter and it worked fine, and you have been driving with it and all was well then weeks went by and the grinding started, I would doubt you can blame the shifter for that. Probably a synchro has gone bad.

Yes, I did do the install myself. It's pretty much a no brainer, not really sure what I could have possibly done wrong.

This is only while doing a more spirited shift, normal driving has always been just fine.

Yeah, it is a no brainer but even the best makes a mistake or goofs up an easy install sometimes or something comes undone after the install. Did you check the bottom boot again to make sure it is still secure? Is it actual metal grinding you are hearing ir is it a really rapid rattle from the shifter? If tranny grinding, the shifter would be the unlikely cause. If you hear/feel the shifter rattling during spirited driving, that is normal for some cars after Hurst shifter installation and can be cured with some dynamat.
Good luck, I hope you find the problem.

Did you ever get this resolved? Was the dealer concerned with the aftermarket shifter??

Just a wild guess, but it sounds like the "skip shift" feature is not disengaging fast enough because of the faster shifting...

Driving slow around corners at intersections i have hit the "gate" on the skip shift, kinda felt a bit of a grind like i "just" cleared as it allowed me to get to second gear at around 20-21 mph or so...driving easy i usually shift from first around 23mph or around 3200 rpm to avoid that stupid "feature" yes i know there are eliminators for that...

OP's driving a V6, so no skip shift.

Honestly, I haven't done anything about it yet. With my wife on deployment and 2 kids, I don't have much time to sort it out. Not to mention my dealer is about 30miles from me.

I got a stock shifter in my SS. Mine seems to have problems goin into second gear like that. sometime first even at a dead stop! If i play around with the shifter at a stop and go from 1st to 2nd to 3rd back to 2nd and then 1st (just an example) it will semi work smootly. there is not really any noise just feels like a hesitation and no smooth shift! When racing it makes me have to granny shift to avoid it not going into 2nd. yes i have the skip shift eliminator. I dont know why it does it. 1st and 2nd mainly. 3rd - 6th always feel smooth!!

I am having this same problem going from 1st to 2nd as well. (2nd through 6th gear is very smooth) It only does it during "spirited" shifting. Also, shifting is very notchy and hard to shift when cold, especially from 1st to 2nd....almost impossible. Does the clutch need to be bled? Is it a bad synchros? Does the gear oil need to be changed? I really need to get the car into the dealer because driving the car this way is becoming not so enjoyable anymore. :(

I have this same issue, every time I drive aggressively and try a hard shift I miss second, it feels like skip shift is locking it out, I hope someone pipes up with a fix for this or my stocker is going back in, and I have been driving the hurst for 4 months now and it has gotten no better

Yeah...I took my Hurst out. There was nothing wrong with the Hurst but it didn't give me enough leverage to deal with this notchy Tremec. It almost feels like the clutch isn't coming off the flywheel enough. It's so hard for me to find time to make it to the dealer, but I will try sometime this month. I also have to get the squeaky seat tsb taking care of as well. I'd be interested to see a poll of LS3 owner with this shifting problem.
