Car Washes

OK, search function not working.

I used to drive my 17' 2SS thru the local Clean Machine in Naples.

What's everyones take on doing the same with the ZL-1.

Doing my own handwashes.....uhhh no.....I'm 66 not going to do that.

I may have to find a place that does hand washes.

Washing my ZL1 by hand! No automatic car washes for me but I will say at age 63 it’s getting harder for me now and I don’t keep my ZL1 as clean as it should be. Find a local detail/car wash shop and pay to have it done if you have any in your area.

Whatever you do, don't take it though an automatic wash with those sandpaper flaps. Find yourself a good hand washer that actually uses fresh soap, water and wash mits with every car. If you drive through a spot and they are using the same buckets, wash mits and towels on more than one car, don't drop your car off there.

Thanks People. I am going to the clean machine today and going to cancel my monthly subscription.

I am most concerned about side skirts and splitter

I've taken mine though 1 certain auto car wash. I stopped doing after a handful of times because it couldn't clean the fender area above the rear wheels.

I do hand wash it but randomly I'll go through a car wash.

Mid 60s and you’re too tired to wash your car? Seems like a good idea to keep doing it, it can be good exercise and that’s what helps keep you young, strong and flexible.

Check out what Wild Bill, in his 60s, does to celebrate his birthday every year. I’m mid 50s and sure can’t do this but I do try to keep pushing myself...

If you have injuries or illness holding you back that makes sense, as we get older $hit happens.

Tell us about it! Just wait until 10 years from now and I think you can relate. I used to be able to do things when I was in my mid 50s that I can’t or have a harder time doing now. Yes us older people know about age and what it can do to our bodies and health.

Use only mild car wash soap, an ultra clean microfiber mitt, and air dry.

You're not too old, you can do it. I'm mid 50s and still squat with 300# for reps (and I'm not that big). The secret to healthy aging is consistent weight training, the guys who do it stay strong well into their 70s.

Foam cannons are becoming more popular, but I'm still on the fence

I would never touch my car with a pressure washer. Maybe on very low pressure you're ok but looks like that guy was using a higher level, it will strip your clear coat and then the paint. If it's high enough to get tough stuck on bugs and bird $hit it's too high.

Camaro High Performance Owners Manual automatic car wash warning

The Camaro HPOM warns against automatic car washes because of the low clearance of ZL1s and 1LEs. I thought I read a warning about the wide wheels not fitting well and being a scraping risk in those "troughs" that lead your car thru the automatic car wash.

Yes, find a local place that does hand washes. I'm lucky in San Jose to have "cheap and cheerful" Stockton Car Wash.

I understand the physical limitations as we get older. Maybe it's time to outsource certain tasks. Looks like these young entrepreneurs have a good business model.

Omg i would never use a pressure washer on my car.

I would be concerned about those young ladies slipping in those high heels. I could act as their safety coach with some “hands on” training....

At some point that guy will look at his Ferrari and notice the paint is not so glossy anymore. No bugs, but no shine.
