Sadly, many returning military guys don't know how to deal with what happens when they return. My soldier son has told me this, many guys get reckless when they return and end up like this. That's why the military tries to outprocess them slowly. My son had and has his struggles, but I think he's getting better. Scary though, and sad........loved ones need to be aware and protect their returning military guys and girls.

Sad to hear.

I too am a grunt, and I know from experience that after returning from deployment, you start to feel untouchable, almost as if you're Superman, but that's just not the case. As harsh as it may seem, it was his own recklessness that caused this incident, and I'm glad that nobody else was killed or injured in the incident.

My condolences go to the parent's and family of the young Marine. It has to be completely devastating after having worried about him for 7 months straight while he was in Afghanistan then have a complete sense of relief when he returned, only for this happen.

This was just posted a week ago, here we go again. A reminder for what. Not to drink and drive and speed at 120 mph. Thanks but I don't need that reminder. No seat belt...drinking....speeding...common sense.

I have returned home from several deployments and have had this happen to friends and people I knew, either in a car or on a bike it always happens and is very sad.

Yes maybe YOU do not need any reminders. But some of us do.None of us are perfect. If reading and seeing this makes just one person stop and think of the consequences of their actions then it will have served a purpose.
Most everyone takes chances, some of us are lucky to live and tell about it and learn from our mistakes in judgment.Others are not so lucky and only get one chance.I have a relative thats been to Iraq twice now and they want him to go to Afghanistan now.He has never been the same person since. Each time that he returns it is more noticeable.Very troubling to say the least. Hopefully over time he & all of us will be able to adjust and resume somewhat of a normal life.

I am not sure its just returning from a deployment. Being a Former USMC 0331 I can say driving in excess of a posted speed limit happens. Perhaps its the adrenaline rush, I think my wife is glad I have a V6. Although it can still kill me if I act irresponsible.

Thank you for the reminder.

My Prayers for the young marine and his family.

I glad that you don't need any reminders of anything and that you do everything right. In that case just move along and let thread here for people that it might help.

I'm sorry to hear about your relative buzzy, hope that works out. I'm just saying that driving without a seatbelt, while drunk and speeding at 120 mph is common sense. No one should have to tell someone how wrong that is, not only to yourself but he could have killed someone as well. Doing something stupid, yes we all have done things but this was suicidal. As a marine if we are going to bring that up, shouldn't he have learned discipline and safety probably more than a regular civilian and been more careful.

It's sad the this dude didn't have the maturity to handle a car like this.
Mix drinking with an immature and possibly unskilled driver and a need to speed- this is the result.

I feel horrible for his family, but I can't say he didn't have this coming with the choices he made.

Sad, sad story. And an excellent reminder to those who feel invincible. Remember... you're not. You can't escape death forever, but you can avoid it for a while by making good choices.

Hope someone learned from his mistake, otherwise what a waste it was.

:(
