Formatting ExFat won't even recognize and music on the drive. I've always used Fat32 and its hit or miss. I'm going to try NTFS.

I've used NTFS with spotty results. Part of the problem is that I was using a 64GB USB stick. Getting a 32GB stick.

Most Android phones has a microSD card slot that can store up to 1TB In addition to the phone's storage. So you never run out of space taking pictures, videos or store music. I personally have 512GB card in mine and I just move phone to phone when I get a new one and everything is right where it should be. Don't have to rely on the cloud connection.

Just to mention another alternative, I installed a Silverado USB panel with an integrated card reader in place of the one we get in the center console, and it works perfectly. The infotainment screen even shows an SD icon when a card is inserted, so it's clearly designed to support the reader, we just didn't get the better version of the USB component.

Actually, a LOT of the Android phones have dropped the expansion slot because it affects the ability to achieve certain water resistance ratings.

Hmm, isn't the micro SD slot under the cover, typically stacked with the SIM card slot on 99% of phones? I guess you only mean those with an external slot.

It's the same slot as the sim card. Does not make any difference in water resistance.
I think the reason they drop is because of cost cutting and more real estate for battery or other hardware. Or they're just trying to make you pay more for space like Apple.

Gone are the days of "covers", too. There's really no way to get a phone to be water resistant so that you can submerge it for up 30 minutes unless there are no parts that the user can install wrong.

If you look at the details for pretty much any of the 'flagship' phones, none have a slot for a MicroSD card any more. The only place you can insert anything is the SIM slot. Just like they no longer have headphone jacks, for basically the same supposed reason.

Personally, I feel that they've pulled these items out to make room for more battery in the device without making the phone larger.

A nice looking option. Have you posted a DIY on the swap?

By the way, I have those same compartment inserts, but with the white accent line that glows in the dark.

On the subject of USB flash drives, I was using a tiny 32mb Sandisk drive in my '16 1LT. Occasionally the drive was not recognized at startup in the '16, and I would have to unplug it and plug it back in to get it to work. After reading this thread I figured I'd try a different USB drive for my '21 3LT. Only a couple days in, but so far this one has been working for me:

https:/www.amazon.com/dp/B077VXV323/

Both my old and new Sandisk drives were FAT32 formatted, by the way.

The nice surprise that came out of setting up a new flash drive is that I discovered my '21 does not have the 5,000 mp3 file limit that the '16 1LT did. I'll have to update my playlists!

NTFS worked on my 2018 ZL1 and my current 2020 LT1. I think on my early 2016 SS I had to go FAT and waste part of a big drive. I did come up with a way to format big drives with FAT, but the extra space was wasted.

USB in the Camaro any year can be spotty Even my LT1 sometimes fails to recognize the USB and I have the latest update. My 2017 Accord is much better.

Thanks. The original idea came from another forum member (chris227), but I did post about the install in this thread.

OK I reformatted it to NTFS...it worked fine for about 3 days then it was hit or miss but less so, plus this time at least it seemed always see the drive but this time just not see the music. I didn't pull it out to reset it, but the next day I played it and it works. So NTFS works just better but not 100% dependable. Anyone know a 100% fix.

So its the cars USB drive and not the formatting of the stick? If so sounds like a warranty issue.
