K&N series 36 install

Hey everyone I have been reading this forum for over a year. Plenty of information that I have used. I have a 2019 rs for a little over a year now installed Borla exhaust and a few other things. The K&N install seems fairly easy and straight forward. I don’t understand the need to disconnect the negative battery cable. Can the cable be disconnected under the hood or disconnect it from the battery? Not that’s it hard it just doesn’t make sense to me. I guess being 63 wrenching on my cars and others for 50 years or so I like someone to explain what’s the purpose. I have an old 86 c10 that I have been restoring and can do anything but honestly the new technology I am not so good with. Any tips or help form those who did this is much appreciated.

Super easy to do, and the reason is to let the car adapt to the new airflow parameters more quickly. It's not necessary, and it will do it on its own over time, but will adjust at a slower rate
