Lifter tapping or DI?

Hey guys I’d appreciate an informed opinion on this. I have an 18ss that I bought certified with 3500 miles. I just started noticing this sound yesterday. I can’t tell if it’s new or I just didn’t notice it before. It makes the sound throughout the rpm range but is more noticeable at idle. I’ve searched this forum and have seen the other videos but would appreciate yalls i put before I run to the dealer. Also the car came certified with that CAI installed but it doesn’t have the GM lid, is that going to be a problem with my dealer?

seems significantly louder than my '16 ss. I work at a Volvo dealer and I know once we certify the vehicle if there is anything like a CAI installed it's part of the RO we write. I'd assume they'd have no issue with it if they have the same process.

Hmm! It's hard to be certain by listening only to a video but that sounds like more than DI tick to me. I recommend a dealer visit. On the CAI - are you going back to the dealer of purchase? If so - it shouldn't be an issue since they sold it certified that way.

Good luck!

No I bought it up in Indianapolis and I live down in Houston. I guess I’ll call the dealership I bought it from and ask them about it before I take it in locally.

That sounds louder than any DI fuel pump tick I've heard before. A lot louder, but it could still be HPFP related. Have a tech look at the HP fuel line just in case.

Are you automatic? Sounds like a stuck AFM lifter to me.

Dealer service people told me the mild DI tick at idle is normal. Shouldn't be able to hear it much above idle though.

No I didn’t get to get it in. I’m gunna try to bring it in tomorrow. It’s a 6M 1LE. I got a stethoscope but can’t find where to stick in on the head without some disassembly. I read about the other member bringing one with him to the dealership to prove it was an internal metal on metal sound. I really hope they don’t give me any issues with this.
