10 & 2 or 9 & 3?

I've always driven with my hands at 10 & 2 o'clock position, which is why I need paddle shift extensions. Do most use 9 & 3 positions? - which is maybe why some manufacturers have short paddles? Some like Porsche, Lambo, Ferrari come with high reaching paddles from the factory. Just wonderin'.

9 & 3 nuff said! Mainly on performance cars such as ours it's always better to use 9 & 3, hence why the wheel has the thumb cutouts at 9 & 3.

I always drive with my left hand @ 12, and my right hand on my junk. I find I have more control during turn in, and am able to correct understeer with ease.

I'm usually at 9/3, unless it's a long drive, then I'll switch to 10/2 as needed to relax my arm/wrist muscles for a bit.

I just read this from a Formula 1 driver - I think I'm going to train myself back to 9 & 3!:
"There's also another point: The airbag. This is a bomb set inside the steering hub. No, I mean it, it's a small bomb that makes an airbag deploy at 300 kmh! If you holding steering wheel in 10 to 2, the airbag might crush the arms and also send them flying at your face. This risk is reduced when holding the rim and 15 to 3."

Mostly 9/3 for me. Long drives I 5/7-it as I find it more comfortable on my wrists.

Since most of my driving doesn't involve snaking through mountain roads, i only have one hand on the wheel.

But if i am on one of those roads and I'm driving way faster than you're supposed to be, then it's basically 9 and 3. Though I dont see the big difference between 10 and 2 and 9 and 3. Not a big deal.

Now lets hear from the people who want to promote 7 and 5. or some other odd placement.

I'm usually at either 9 OR 12. I rarely, like never, use the paddles. I almost wish they weren't even there. Actually wish I had a manual again, but that's another story.

I have two teens learning to drive, and they teach kids 9&3 now, because of the airbag issue already mentioned. 10&2 is a recipe for eating your own forearms in an accident.

I typically hold the bottom of the steering wheel with one hand. 9-3 > 10-2 though.

9-3 is the position that is taught at any of the HPDE events that I have been to.
