Mustang GT PP1 vs Supra
Now, I posted this video because both of these cars should be within the spectrum of potential competitors. But, there's a little bit of a treat towards the end when they start talking about lap times they've had there. I think you guys will like it.

The funny part is the SS1LE they use is on PS4S and is thus a tad slower than it would be stock.

I think it was actually on Michelin Cup 2. They did this because the PP2 mustang comes with cup2 so they wanted a comparison with equal tires.

Interesting, just caught that in the end of the video. All the videos I saw from them with the SS1LE were on PS4. I got to check and see if they did a video for the track time with Cup2.

Yup, I went back and saw it. As expected, the 1LE prevails lol. They keep idiotically harping on the screen being tilted forward, but oh well... I suppose they need something to complain about.

Those are really good videos, but yes that screen complaint is something I don’t understand. I have not noticed it once.

It does catch the eye at first glance, but after about a week, it just blends in. I don't agree with their interior comments either, for its price point the Camaro is not a bad place to spend time in. I can't say that about the Mustang's interior. The driving dynamics in the SS 1LE are STELLAR and it hits several levels above its weight class. The only cars that would get me out of mine are the ZL1 1LE (maybe, might be a bit much for daily use), GT3, GT3 RS, or the upcoming GT4 with PDK option. Oh and maybe a C8 GS in a few year depending on how things go with it.

They just ran the zl1 1le on that little track and it ran a 1:11 and change, just fractions of a second faster than the ss 1le. I'm sure in the bigger track the gap would be much larger but it's cool that the only thing that beat the ss 1le so far is a zl1 1le.
I'd like to see them run the ss 1le on the stocl goodyears. From what I've read from some guys who track their 1le's heavily is that the sc3s might perform just as good as the psc2s on the ss 1le.

Having black seats with alcantara inserts in our cars makes that a non issue for the most part. In a car with white, red, or kalahari seats this angle might be annoying.

I think it may also have more to do with the cooler temps on that day vs the day the SS1LE was tested. ZL1 1LE has considerably more aggressive tires that need heat to perform well. Also, being setup with the stiffest setting for the shocks wouldn't help it with that track being as bumpy as it is. I would have to think if you took a ZL1 1LE with just a LT1 instead of an LT4 in it, on a track like PBIR or Homestead, it should still be a bit faster than a SS1LE.

Both cars are great as street cars. The SS1LE gives so much more bang for the buck though. If I didn’t like/love doing track events the GTPP would be fine (except that old looking interior). The GT350 is a better comparison but the cost increase especially with markup is insane and makes it easily not worth it to someone who trades cars out as often as I do... 6-12mo last few years. If you were keeping it long term the markup would be slightly easier to stomach.
The Zupra is a really cool idea, seems fun, stylish and nice to be in. Same problem with the markup, these dealers are crazy and super annoying but I guess the consumers allow it by continuing to buy the cars. Also, sure wish they’d put a stick in the Supra since it’s supposed to be a driver’s car and most people taking this thing out on the weekends aren’t setting lap times on their local streets. So please with my SS1LE for what I want out of it: great handling, great drama, quick lap times so I can hang with other fast cars on track, and a back seat I can haul the kids around in from time to time. |
