Break in Period

Just got me 23 Zl1 M6

What is the recommended break in period / maintenance

I've read a lot of things. I really want to get into it but i only currently have had time to drive about 70 miles

There is a thread posted at the top of this forum call 500/1500 mile and beyond service info. Read that.

What I do - leave it in low gears like 1st, 2nd on med throttle rev to 3k ish then let off and let it coast down (don't press in the clutch - let the engine slow you down), accelerate up, repeat. This puts load on both sides of the cylinder walls. Do this as often as possible in the first 500 miles. Downshift all the time and use engine braking often in general. Use rev matching.

Well Breakin procedure is going to vary depending on who you ask. The MOST respected engine builder I know, LATE MODEL ENGINES simply told me to drive it like I stole it.

We had some breakin oil from AMSOIL in my freshly built 416 and we changed that after 500 miles so I was relatively easy on it until I could get my 15-50W normal synthetic in it.

Brian at LME told be because of the way the cylinder walls are honed and cross hatched on THEIR engines that ring seal is ALMOST immediate.

Don't baby it, but don't rev it out past 4000 rpm too often, and not near redline. Change engine oil and rear differential oil (with the OEM rear diff fluid specifically for the elec. LSD) at 1000 miles and then enjoy.

Mine was dyno'd at 350 miles, and although I haven't taken it apart and inspected the parts, it seems no worse for the wear.

Lol. Same, mine went on the dyno with about 220 miles on it, had a 2650 put on it and was given 'full send' again. Drive the car, my answer to this.

My 2016 Z06 had a lower redline on the tach for the first 500 miles. Does the ZL1 not do that?

No, that's a Corvette-only feature.

The very first section, preliminary, has a hyper link to a track prep guide that tells you exactly how to break in the car per GM.
