I can pose the question another way: As a purely street driver who finds 0-60mph in 5.9s boring and severely lacking, would the acceleration punch in the SS be enough to keep me excited? I don't drive recklessly, and the main times I would accelerate would be at around the 60-68mph (100-110km/h) mark overtaking someone, and from stop.

I'm thinking that there is a point in sensible street conditions, where one cannot experience greater thrills due to the limits UNLESS one brings the car to the track to exceed those limits. The question is, will I reach that street limit in the SS? I'm hoping that I can NEVER reach that street limit in the SS because the SS has more performance than I could experience on the street.

What's your opinion? Would I reach that street limit in the SS?
Yes. You would.

Wait......... if you're asking if the SS would top out before you reach the limits you described then no.

Hang on.............

So what you're saying is that it is possible to drive harder on the streets than the SS is capable of?

Hmmm...

Is there a budget here?

Let me start over. Under the conditions you describe, the SS can easily go beyond safe (streetable, legal) limits.

my thoughts are, a car that you can drive now always wins over a mythical car that you cannot drive now....lol. tbh, will the Z28 ever be built? no one knows at this point and until they reach production, they don't exist. and by the time they do reach production, there is the aftermarket, you could conceivably already have a Z28 in your hands minus the badging and minor cosmetic upgrades.

Yes, but by Spring 2011 when I am ready to purchase, I assume we will know whether the Z/28 is a go or not. Obviously if no-go, then I won't regret something that doesn't exist. However if it is a go but for later in 2011, then would I buy the SS in Spring 2011, or wait for the Z/28?

There is probably going to be 10k difference between the 2. get the 2011 and s/c it. you get to drive it all year in 11 that way. if you buy the z in late 11, you wont get to drive it until spring of 12.

At that point, you may be chasing your tail. What if you wait and then it's still 'rumored' a year away?

What was that? Oh, the sound of my SS as I started it... Some of us dreamed for four years to own what we have. You can wait but you are missing out.

I'll wait. I'm enjoying my V6 for now but will trade for a Z when it comes out.
To me you can never mod a car to be something that it isn't, maybe faster with lots of bucks but it will never be a Z

A stock Z28 is my goal and a full warranty is a big plus.
