For config #13(which I believe you were running) sub 2:00 is very respectable especially on true non-R radials. Great job. My goal for the 1LE is a 54 in that config.

Obviously there are many different reasons for that (specific group event, differing requirements to run in various skill groups, groups full of people with capable cars without any desire to truly run their car due to fear of wadding the car up or skill level issues, etc., etc.) Unless the track day can more resemble an actual race than a strict DE day, this type of video with very competent, spirited driving isn’t even possible. Again, nice driving! (I’d have a blast running with you on the track!) |

Thanks everyone! Stoked so many of you enjoyed it, I will try and make more soon.
Infern0, I had the PTM in race because I wanted the least intervention possible i.e. me actually drive the car instead of the nannies. When I first got the car I was nervous to put it in track mode but after a couple track and autocross days I started to get very comfortable in the car. I find it way less intimidating at the limit of grip compared to a C7. My goal for the end of that day once I got a couple fast laps was to really work on my car control so the last few sessions I turned everything off as I still felt the car still intervening in track mode. Even though my lap times suffered from a little more sloppy driving on bald tires I feel like I learned a lot about the car that day. You know what they say, crappy tires make great drivers. I've tried to be patient and not go to tires with more grip than a 200 TW tire too quickly as I've heard it will actually stunt your learning curve. After going through 2 sets of the stock Goodyears I'm now on Cup 2's which take noticeably longer to get heat in them. That was only my 10th day on track ever. So I was nervous to join the advanced group with no point by passing required but I had to out of necessity because the ZL1 is so damn fast. ninetres, I think the car is definitely capable of high 1:55's-low 1:56's in stock form. If your buddy is turning 1:56's and only driving 8/10ths he must be one HELLUVA driver. Would love to see the PDR from his laps! The other thing is if you're driving at that pace the stock pads will completely fade after 10 min on track. The only way I was able to get the confidence to continually post sub 2:00 laps was to ditch the stock pads, night and day difference. Can't believe the 1LE comes with the same street pads! meSSohappy, vid should work. If you can't get it to play here try searching directly on youtube. STAY IN IT, you are right that track days can become a bummer if people aren't at least close to the same speed and respectful on track. I will say be careful which track day organization you choose to spend your money with! waterman, glad I'm not the only surfer on here! My wife always says why don't you just go surf or snowboard instead of going to the track. I try to explain to her that those things rely on mother nature cooperating. A day at the race track is always fun, even in the rain! Let me know where I sign the petition to build a track in HI. |

The Dukes of Hazzard made it for me lol. Some good driving. I love the up over the hill right hander that unweights the car on that track. I was on that track once back in 2002 when I lived in California with my 2000 Camaro ss convertible for a Hotchkis track day and I chased down and passed a 2002 z06 with it. I had koni double adjustable shocks on the car and a moser 12 bolt with 4.10s with a sphon torque arm but the rest was stock.

The guy that ran the 56 was only out for 2-3 flyers. He’s one of those guys who always has some excuse about how he wasn’t driving 10/10, or his car is full weight, or on street tires etc etc. Its VERY annoying. He does some coaching at Speed District events, and is a good driver.....but not a pro or anything.
I’m 100% sure a stock ZL1 could run a 56. You will go that fast your next track day with better tires. I wish your PDR wasn’t spliced up. Is there a full lap on it? I’m a self proclaimed wizard at 13CW :p. I also do some amateur instructing and am no slouch at 13CW myself. If you’re interested, I could offer you pointers. The first few minutes of your video was seemed to be full of traffic and spliced/edited so there wasn’t much to analyze. |
