Remote Control Door Lock Receiver
Where is the Remote Control Door Lock Receiver located in the Camaro?
Mine needs replacing due to occasional inability to start the car. |

On my 16 it was bolted to the lh rear wheel well behind the trunk panel. Was in a stack of three modules including the fuel pump controller. I had to get in there to chase a wiring problem.

If you are talking pushbutton start, there is a controller that senses the proximity of the fob under the center console. The unit near the wheel well is usually the "long distance" receiver that receives when you press the fob buttons.

Make sure the battery in the fob is healthy.

You can put your fob in the rear cup holder and see if that makes a difference as when you put it in there, it does not rely on the fob's battery. (just for clarity, I'm saying when you put it in the cupholder, it is close enough to the antenna it does not need a fob battery, normally it does rely on the battery and as @ember1205 said, you should make sure it's good.)
Here's a pic of the unit. You are looking at the bottom of the cup holders. The part on the left is the USB/Aux input in the center console. The part on the bottom of the cup holders (upper center) is the fob proximity senser and the unit with the 2D barcode on it is the controller for it.

This is not a fob battery issue or anything that can be solved by putting the fob in the cupholder. Over the past 3.5 years since I purchased the car new, I have had six occurrences where the car does not recognize the fob. Some of the times I could not unlock the doors from the outside, other times I could not start the car once inside but this last time I was in a drive thru that was moving slowly so I turned the car off. BIG MISTAKE I could not start the car for 15 minutes which has been the case every time this has happened. Imagine being in a drive thru where you could do nothing but piss everybody off behind you. Could not release the electronic parking brake so there I sat. There is a TSB #16-NA-396 that addresses this issue.
Wanted to know what part of the car the dealer would be working on when replacing the Receiver. Last edited by donaldp; 09-22-2020 at 10:48 PM. |

Looks like it will be the one near the wheel well, not the one under the console.

- You never mentioned whether you ever tried changing the battery. It is possible that it's at fault. - One way to possibly better understand whether it might be the fob battery would be to switch fobs. At least at that point, you would know if the issue is with the remote or in the car. If the dealer is going to be working on it and covering it under warranty, then it's really a moot point. But, if you're paying for it, knowing exactly what to have them be diagnosing and repairing would seemingly be the ideal situation. Hope you get it sorted with minimal out of pocket cost and minimal inconvenience. |

Battery is irrelevant when the car starts every time after 15 minutes once the receiver/system resets itself.
Needs to be under warranty even though my warranty is expired since it is clearly a safety hazard. |

Sounds like you've got it all figured out, then. Good luck.
