DIY: Install Budget Oil Catch Can on SS

Local dealership: $43 tax included. https://www.jackcartergmpartsdepot.c.../12629757.html https://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo...10356888&jsn=7 Tools: 1) Drill + 1/4 and 5/32 drill bits 2) Flat head screwdriver 3) Adjustable wrench 4) 11 mm and 17 mm wrench 5) Ratchet and 11 mm socket 6) 2.5 mm Allen key 7) Carving knife 8) Needle nose plier 9) Loppers Steps: 1) Drill two holes (5/32) on the 4 inch L-shape brace using the bracket in the oil catch can as template. Sorry for my bad work, the two new holes are not parallel with the brace arm. Fig. 1 2) The hex bolts I purchased are a bit thicker than the holes on the L-shape brace, so I used Ό drill bits to make the two holes wider. Please skip this step if you get the bolts with proper size. 3) Mount the oil catch can bracket to the L-shape brace using M4*12 machine screws, nuts and washers (tools: flat head screwdriver + adjustable wrench). Install one set of hex bolt, nut and washer on the bottom hole of the brace (tools: 11 mm wrench). This will make the brace plane vertical to the ground after mounting it to the cooling fan. Applied blue threadlocker on all screws. Fig. 2 Fig. 3 4) Mount the L-shape brace to engine cooling fan with the other set of hex bolt and nut (use the hole marked by red circle in Figure 4. Tools: 11 mm wrench + 11 mm socket). I also used a hose clamp (9/16 to 1-1/16) to mount the brace to the plastic arm to avoid the brace from swinging (see Fig. 7). Do not over tighten the bolt and hose clamp which may cause damage to the plastic arm and hole of the cooling fan assembly. Fig. 4. Fig. 5 Fig. 6 Fig. 7 5) Cut the 3/8 hose into two, 60 cm one for OUTPUT and 52 cm one for INPUT (or two 2 feet). Wrap electrical tape around the spot your gonna cut before you cut it (tool: loppers)! Please skip this step if you get two 2 feet 3/8 PCV hose from Napa. Fig. 8 6) Install the two fittings to the catch can using 17 mm wrench. Mount the 60 cm hose to OUTPUT nipple and 52 cm hose to INPUT nipple and fasten with 1/4 to 5/8 MINI hose clamp. Fig. 9 7) Disconnect the stock PCV valve hose in Fig. 10 (press the grey button and pull out). Note that I did not remove the engine cover. I disconnected one valve marked by red circle in Fig. 12 and moved the line away for more room to remove the PCV valve hose. The space is quite limited, be patient and do not break the plastic fittings. You can also remove the engine cover for more space if you have big hands (see Lethal Garage video: Fig. 10 Fig. 11 Fig. 12 8) Dissemble the valves (fittings) from stock PCV valve hose (carving knife and needle nose plier). Wipe the valves and saw some oil (my Camaro has 24500ish KM). Fig. 13 Fig. 14 9) Connect the UPPER stock valve (left pic in Fig. 13) to oil catch can OUT hose. Connect the LOWER stock valve (right pic in Fig. 13) to oil catch can IN hose. Fasten both with 1/4 to 5/8 MINI hose clamps. Do not over tighten. Fig. 15 10) Mount the oil catch can to the bracket using 2.5 mm Allen key. Fig. 16 11) Route both IN and OUT hoses underneath the air intake hose. Avoid the INPUT hose touching the metal parts of the engine. Connect oil catch can OUT fitting/hose to the intake manifold (UPPER) port. Connect oil catch can IN fitting/hose to the dirty inlet (LOWER). You will hear a click sound when the valve is properly connected. Double check all the connections. Do not forget to reconnect the valve in Fig. 12. Fig. 17 Fig. 18 Fig. 19 12) Done! Note: 1) Check the oil catch can every 1000 KM. 2) You can also mount the can to CAI which does not need any brace and is easier than mounting to cooling fan. I do not have CAI, so just mounted the can to cooling fan.
