Race Fuel?

So I was contemplating using Race Fuel but wasn't sure of our engines compression I was thinking the 100 octane VP Racing Fuel but am unsure of wether or not the stock compression is going to allow it. I get i'm not going to run a super fast time with it and I know if i'm a 9;1 it'll hurt the performance my goal is desperately to break into the 12s with my heavy ass 20" wheels and street tires before I go to a smaller DR later this fall.

Any help before race time is appreciated.

I don't know that you'll see any performance improvement unless the tune is adjusted to take advantage of the higher octane.

You can run 100 in the car. No sweat. Much higher and you won't really see gains. You can acutally see loses if the car isn't tuned for race gas. 100 isn't way higher than pump so it would simply give some added detonation protection and possibly a tad better power. Don't do it just for the power gained however, as it is minimal if any, unless properly tuned for it.

Hope that helps.

All the best,

Jared

Smartass. Was hoping the 100 octane would be semi-beneficial given the ambient temps being higher this time of year.

Pump the 100 and throw a little more timing, I run Diesel and I've had no issues

Well no 12s tonight track prep was poor but i think the 20s on street tires are killing me my MPH went up but my 60' got worse. Averaging low 13.3 instead of 13.4s so small gains but no PB this time around. Didn't end up using race fuel or lowering tire pressure this may be a contributing factor to my stalemate.

There is actually some good news here man. It's the dead middle of summer. You can only get faster from here as the weather changes. Also, it sounds like the car is very consistant. Thats a huge plus in my book! Nothing worse than going out, rippin out a P.B. only to never be able to repeat it again.. Been there, done that, it sucks..

For the record, GM states that you should run 100 octane fuel in any competitive driving. It's right there in the owner's manual. It wont add any power, but will prevent knock during extensive high performance driving.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but if your coolant temp and IATs are high the ecu will pull timing regardless if knock is detected. It may help some, but meth or an intercooler upgrade would be what you'd need.
