The Bose will suit the needs of most people but if you have a higher level of sound quality or bass requirements...get the base system and upgrade it. Upgrading the Bose system is pretty difficult.

I'm happy enough with the Bose System in my 2SS.

If I’m interested in upgrading my sound system, what would you recommend?
I have a 2016 1ss

As most of the guys will respond, it really all depends on your budget. IMO, the bose system can NOT be upgraded properly without spending a couple grand

absolute base costs:

1. M650-GM ........... $850
2. 5 channel amp..... $500
3. replacement speakers $500
4. subwoofer............ $ 300

prices are on the low end, but this is minimal for what I believe will allow improvement over factory, with retention of all door dings, chimes, etc.

Does the 9 speaker Bose in the Coupe have a center channel in the middle of the dash? Does it have surround sound processing?

Yes, it has a center channel

I have read that it decodes surround sound, but it is hard to test. I have DVD-Audio and DVD-video in my CTS-V, so it's easy to test. NO optical drive in the Camaro, so IDk.

Have you tried copying the audio from the DVD to a USB flash drive? Or do you need the video portion with the audio to use it?

It derives surround from stereo audio data. Sorta like Dolby Pro Logic used to make surround.

L+R=Center (If the content is the same in the L and R, in frequency, magnitude, and in-phase. If not, then it pushes it to L or R based on magnitude.)

L-R= Rear speakers (If the content is the same in the L and R, in frequency, magnitude, and out of phase. If not, then it pushes it to L or R based on magnitude.)

Phase is the most important thing for steering surround. L+R content determines where the soundstage sits in front of you.

The big difference is that with the DSP, it can more accurately compare L and R frequencies and magnitudes. This allows for better audio steering.

I'm about to replace my non-bose system with Skar audio speakers and amps. They have good quality for their value. I'll have a thread for it once I'm done.

I definitely think it is worth it. Once you set the tone setting right, it sounds amazing for a stock system.

I have the upgraded Karmon in my M3 and it sounds every bit as good as that.

Unless you want a studio on wheels, which to me defeats the purpose of high end audio because you will never have great accustics in a car, the up charge systems that are available nowadays are pretty amazing.

I'm on here searching today because my BOSE is CRAP!!!

There is a giant hole in the EQ that causes many of my tracks to be completely missing lead instruments, such as trumpet and guitar. Some notes are just completely missing.

I guess I've heard worse, but never a system that appears to be missing midrange drivers!

And minimal bass, as always with "Dr BOSE".
