This is why street racing is just a bad deal these days.

You wanna go to Texas or any other place to street race then this could happen to you. What dumb f--ks. Looks like Camaro did all the damage, 3 dead and 9 injured.

The facebook link isn't working for me. Are you talking about this incident?

https://www.khou.com/article/news/cr...5-a423b6390a2a

If so, this isn't street racing. This is one idiot being stupid, costing lives.

Yep thats it and I clicked on it and worked. Ok idiots Freeway racing, what ever you want to call it and others standing on the side of the Highway are among the other dumb asses. There was another car on the other side of the median. That guy is gonna spend a long time in jail, doubt he'll ever drive again legally. Its sad for sure.

You were correct, I thought there was another car on the other side of the median he was racing. In the original facebook post it said nothing about the flyby. Thanks for posting that. My bad.

No sweat. Just clarifying details. Your point still stands. Stupid for the driver, sad for the people that got hurt, lifetime of repercussions for a single stupid decision.

Condolences to all that were injured or worse.

Wasn't Texas just in a deep freeze? Why does anyone think it's a good idea to go bonkers?

Good reminder that I need to keep this to closed, sanctioned areas like drag strips and tracks.

With great powers come great responsibility and all that.

This is just sad. Immature, reckless and stupid. There are a lot of people in the world with more money than brains, and this is proof of it.

About a month after I bought my car, I had a hilljack in a beefed up Ram 2500 Cummins want to race me at a red light. And I could tell it was the 6 speed as he was reving the engine and rocking forward and backward a little. It was souped up. I don't know what all he had on it but I wasn't going to find out, even though I knew I probably could still smoke him.

When the light turned green he gunned it and took off, pouring smoke out of the custom dual stacks he ran through the bed and smoking the tires too.

I caught up to him at the next red light, and he looked at me with such disappointment that I didn't oblige.

That's one thing about a car like ours - you're sure to bring out the wannabe racers in everyone on the road

I couldnt open either attachment. But...
Theres plenty of street racing "fails" vids on youtube.
I grew up street racing. The kind of thing we did in the early 70's was street drags. Either impromptu red light races until someone was ahead enough that it was obvious who was faster... or there were a few desolate stretches of 4 lane highway with lights. And we would drop a spotter off at the finish line and use the stoplight for a tree.
What Im seeing on some of these vids are assclowns redlining their cars... often really expensive cars.. to the rev limiter and drifting on the street. Often directly into poles or buildings because they held it too long to ever recover from in an area with zero runoff.
I dont get it.
We used to run side by side on deserted stretches of say 539 through the Pine Barrens here in Jersey. In 1972 there was no one out there. Straight road for 5 miles invites top end runs. But even then there was mostly a large swath of sand on either side which they cleared for future expansion if needed.
There were a few times someone had to hit the sand because an unexpected vehicle was coming the other way over a rise in the road.
Crazy kids.

The one thing I will say is that, even the V6 Camaro today is as powerful if not more so than most of the big V8 muscle cars in the 70s. Our cars are wound up so much more tighter than anything built in the 70s. And our V8 equipped Camaros today have performance only attainable by Lamborghinis back in the 80s. So the kids now have rockets that they're not really used to or have gotten accustomed to, and stomping on the throttle in a 2016+ LT1 equipped Camaro SS is a LOT different from stomping on the throttle on a 1970 Camaro SS with even a 396. You would take longer to get into a bad situation, and have more time to get out of one, than you do today. If you're not paying attention these cars will get away from you in a blink of an eye, literally.

Does anyone want to comment on how there was a car basically parked (with people standing around) in the middle of the highway? I'm not trying to diminish the severity of what happened, or condoning the actions of the driver of the Camaro, but come on. This was an all around recipe for disaster. Sad to hear of the lives affected, and unfortunate for the car.
