The thing with the normal M6 ZL1 is that it's 5th gear is shorter (0.82) than the SS (.074). So it easily reaches redline in 5th. Problem is that the 6th ratio of 0.54 makes for a huge rpm drop and the motor falls too far off the powerband. The SS slows down in 6th too in this situation. Notice in the video here of the gray SS, when he shifts into 6th gear, he loses 15km/hr and the video ends. We don't get to see where it finally settles down.

wnta1ss: I completely understand the gearing/rpm inputs to top speed. Point of my comment is a normal ZL1 with far more power is no faster (top speed) than our SS 1LE (and theoretically 5 mph slower than a standard SS).
One bonus for the SS / SS 1LE is adding power will result in even greater topspeed (with no gearing change) as the car has 400-500 rpm more rpm before fuel cut.

Impressive runs. Got up to a pretty high number myself this weekend. I was really surprised how well the car felt at that speed.
