Thanks for posting. Let us know if you feel any change in the suspension after the install. I can only assume the FEA bushings use a stiffer rubber. The FE4 ride link bushings are the only ones that appear different among all 4 pairs of part numbers, for what it's worth.
In some ZL1 1LE marketing GM claims the FEA suspension uses stiffer ball joints, so that's a probability that's hidden underneath the weather boots. Quote:
Think about it from a suspension tuning standpoint. The FE2 comes with 245 section all-season tires, and the FEA comes with 305 & 325 wide R-compound tires. There isn't a rational reason to run the same bushings as the deflections and subsequent dynamic alignments would be significantly different between the two. As a rule of thumb, the greater the tire grip, the stiffer you need the bushings to be. Conversely it's nonsensical (and a waste of money and lack of durability) to run sphercial-bearings on narrow all-seasons as the precision movement is made moot by the large tread squirm. GM may be using the same molds on some bushings but it would be naive to assume they're the same durometer for such a huge span of performance characteristics.

I'll see if I notice a difference once I get my summer tires on. I replaced both front control arms with the FEA versions. I'm running 245 winter tires right now so they aren't the best for handing lol.

Agreed, however... The geometry looks the same and if the part is 'sufficient' they may have spent money elsewhere. Maybe some closer inspection of the bushings (might be a small molding number hidden somewhere) and obviously a good look at the ball joint would be in order.
Heck it could have exactly the same bushing but a harder ball joint. Kinda sucks these look like single use parts... Bushing is probably serviceable (possibly replaceable with poly/solid) but the ball joint probably not. |

Hey guys the rear sway bar for a convertible ZL1 (FE4) is a different part number, it is 84118919. Would there be any difference between the two or is it just different number for a coupe vs a convertible?

ZL1 convertible internal chassis code is AL67. The AL37, aka ZL1 coupe, uses a different part number rear stabilizer bar. Exactly what's different between the two isn't yet known. My guess is they chose to tune the stiffness rates on the rear stab bars on the SS and ZL1 'verts differently for the change in vehicle weight and/or chassis torsional rigidity. My hunch is they're softer than the respective coupe bars. I don't believe there's a physical constraint to have the convertible be a different shape, as the LT 'verts don't have a different rear bar number.

I recently got some ZL1 parts and they had slightly different numbers than what you had on some parts (I might have missed something).
The rear MRC dampers part number was 84219920 The rear knuckles were 84382226 & 84382227 They were off a 2017 ZL1. Last edited by Mrfixxit7; 04-07-2018 at 07:38 AM. |

Those other part numbers aren't knuckles, but new part numbers for the rear lower control arms, you can see the "replaced by" here at GMPartsGiant. Thanks for the updates.

Does anyone know if the MRC computer "tune" is the same for all FE4s both coupes and convertibles or is there a FE4 coupe tune and a FE4 convertible tune? |

Interesting, MrFixxit just posted in the classifieds that same part number as a non-MRC FE3, so perhaps it's used on both dampers. It wouldn't surprise me in the least.

No, it's an option on FE3.
FE4, however, is always MRC.
