I know some of you don't care or like using a drain valve (i.e. Fumoto) but I've been using them since the mid 80's and here's why.
Back then the oil change was every 3k miles...my Toyota truck had 245k miles when I gave it to my brother, and I changed my oil and filter every 3k...that would have been a lot of removing and torquing of the drain plug.


I noticed with the amount of unscrewing the drain plug and torquing it tight again and again, the threads on the oil pan was getting pretty bad.
At about 100k I put on a Fumoto valve, and have never looked back.


Now, I use the Fumoto because of the same reason above, but also for:
Ease of draining the oil, remove the locking pin, flip the lever out comes the oil.
I connect a tube to the end of the valve to have the oil directed into the oil pan hole, with no mess.


This valve also allows me the opportunity to take samples for BlackStone to get my oil analyzed without a mess and trying not to over-fill the sample bottle.


I can take some oil at the beginning, mid and end of the drain without any mess...much easier to start and stop a pour of 10qts of oil.


I don't have to get new gaskets or torque the drain plug, just close the valve, place lock on it and done.


Now as for the oil filter, I have never heard of torquing the oil filter tight. On canister top fill oil filters, I can see torquing the cover nut, but never on a twist on oil filter.


Most filters will have instructions that say:
Spin on filter until contact, then tighten 3/4 of a turn by hand.


I learned with my Toyota truck you can over tighten the oil filter and tear the rubber gasket, which in turn will cause the filter to leak at the gasket contact point.



Seems like the oil change on the SS will be almost as easy as on my Silverado I had, just getting it on the ramps may be a problem.
I'll have to make wooden steps for the ramps with some 2x6 boards I guess.

I wrote about using oil valves here about 2 1/2 years ago. Fumoto works great, a bit more elegant solution is the Stahlbus valve.

Thanks, I never heard of this type.

The Stahlbus is much nicer and clean looking with the cap, but I like the functionality of the Fumoto better, where you have control of the flow of oil coming out...open all the way, half-way or quarter-way etc.

Now if this was an area that could be seen without having to go under the car, I would probably get the Stahlbus.

I know it’s been mentioned. I searched and I couldn’t find the exact question.

I only drive my 2018 Camaro 2SS 3k miles a year. So, should I change the oil just once a year. It always stays clean. I use Mobil 1 5W30 Full Synthetic oil.

you have full control over the oil flow with the Stahlbus by simply pushing it in, it starts to flow, let it out a little bit and it stops. I’ve never spilled a drop in pulling out oil samples or small amounts…

Rhino ramps are Ok for a Base Camaro. They won't work for a 1LE with Splitter.

I purchased the 10" high Race Ramps. You can drive right up on them without any assistant having to watch.

I lean a mirror against a concrete block, angled so I can see my wheel as it goes up onto the ramp. The mirror is about 1' x 3' and meant to hang on the wall or the back of a door. Not expensive to buy, but I had one kicking around.

It just so happened that I needed to change my oil today, so here is a picture of what you can see in the mirror from the driver's seat, when you position the mirror correctly. You can watch your wheel go up and know exactly where you are on the ramp. This makes it much safer, IMHO. Not all of us have someone around all the time to guide us up.

What is the size of the oil drain plug on 6.2?

Stahlbus only lists up to 2015. Probably same but need to make sure.

The size (M12 x 1.75) is what matters. The 09-15 is the same as Gen 6.
