odd. mine feels wallered out. i shift the car like it cheated on me, maybe that has something to do with it. i guess i'll have to pull the shifter and see exactly what is wearing out already (10k miles).

Maybe that has somehting to do with it. I have quite a few 1/4 passes on my, no signs of wear. Maybe something did break. maybe the rubber O-ring around the outer fingers snapped. The hurst one is much more robust, might be worth the switch for you. Its a pain in the ass to install though.

Got the car back together and running.

My tips - careful of lowering the powerplant frame too far and becoming misaligned off the 'register' pins on the 2nd from front bolt. I spent an hour or two messing with correcting that - realizing a fair amount of weight was at stake. Some prying got it back into position.



Clutch takes an 8 mm wrench - put a ziptie on the end so if you drop it into the bellhousing you can fish it out (I nearly did).

The twin disc clutch assembly flew together and the way it is constructed had no issues with alignment (I didn't even use an alignment tool).

Maybe I will drive it in a couple of months once winter passes here...and the lockdown/curfews are no more. Thanks for the tips folks!

Got a call from the transmission shop this morning letting me know what happened with my transmission. He said this is the first time he has ever seen this before in over 40 yrs of transmission work. There are 2 magnets that are siliconed into the bottom of the housing, well they came loose. He said it looked like there was very little silicone on them and they came loose and jammed it up. It burned up 5th gear and the hub, but other than that it really didn't do any damage. Since the magnets are brittle they didn't do any physical damage to anything inside. Just getting it clean up, replace and upgrade a few things and it will be ready in a few days.

Well my McLeod RXT clutch finally arrived late last week and I already had the trans rebuilt and the hurst shifter ready to go. Got my car into the shop and on a lift Friday after work. Took about an hour to get the clutch installed. Instructions were great and I had no issues.

Saturday morning we spent about 5 hours getting the trans back in and buttoning it back up. The trans went back in easier than it came out, maybe the McLeod clutch housing was a little smaller giving more room to work the trans back in. But like when the the trans was pulled we removed the rear and middle engine cradle bolts and supported it with pole jacks and tiled the back of the cradle down. It's very tight up against the bell housing and fire wall but it went in easier than expected. The new GM slave bled with no problems and the new clutch pedal felt about the same as the stock one.

First drive was great, everything felt good. Biggest difference was the Hurst short shifter, wow what a difference. Certainly some more effort for shifts but it is def shorter, a much more of a positive engagement, feels more precise, and less chance of a mised shifts on the track. I think the bronze shift pads on the forks in the trans also help with a more positive and precise shift engagement, but I think the shifter made the most difference. The clutch feels 95% like stock. Mind you I put about 100 miles on it yesterday to start breaking it in, but only an occasional slight chatter when lugging it, other than that feels like stock. I am so happy it went back together as good as it did and the results are fantastic.

yeah, did the hurst last weekend. unfortunately the sloppy shifter is caused by the linkage coming out of the trans. i'm not ready to pull the trans yet so it'll have to wait.
